Lopez will be fine if he comes cheap. Good rim protection, doesn’t get injured, not a big ego

Not cheap. He got almost the full MLE amount.

Yeah that's a lot of money. You mean to tell me Tristan Thompson or Nerlens Noel couldn't have signed for the same amount or less?

I tweeted out Lopez is repped by the same agent who represents Rui.

In contrast with Davis, that's definitely too much money for Lopez. It does look like a one year deal, however, so I imagine the team is paying for the lack of long term obligation (none of the more appealing options would have taken a one year deal I'm sure). Not entirely what I'd want, but a tolerable signing.

e: this is sort of predicated on the premise that his very bad play last year was an aberration and not just evidence of the end of his being a functional player. Still too much money to find out if he can ascend to his own mean.

But lopez is totally washed. He’s a net negative now. What a strange signing.

No not cheap. I spoke too fast. Can’t believe he’s worth more than 3-4 million

Full MLE for Lopez reeks of the KD off season where the plan B was Mahinmi and Jason Smith.

It's way too much money for Lopez, but my thought is that the Wiz have such a poor reputation as an organization, that they have to overpay for free agents. Four million would have made sense. At least it's just one year and they didn't Mahinmi him.

Not a big fan of his game. I'd rather just stick with Bryant and Wagner.

Only good news is, it’s just a one year deal. Welp

Same. Both players are better than Lopez.

And yet, we gave me something like 8 million???? There’s no defending this one. Maybe it’s a locker room move????

Agree that his numbers and metrics were terrible last season. Other than size and experience, not sure what else he adds. Ok, he's a character. But you don't pay most of the MLE to get a character.

Awful awful signing! 7 mil for old school center who has to play drop coverage in P&Rs? Massive waste of space & flexibility. Best aspect of the deal is that its one year but putting your playoff hopes on a Bryant/R. Lopez duo seems like a setup for major disappointment.

On the plus side, it could work out and the Wizards can overpay him next offseason.
