All things Ish Smith.

I couldn't find his thread, so mods feel free to blend this if it fits better somewhere. I just figure it'd be good to have a spot for Ish to get his props. I always like the way he carries himself and plays. Here is Ish talking about his development, areas of focus over the summer, trying to hit 40% from 3, developing his defense, his mentorship of young players, and his reflections on Russ' game and mindset.

He shot 37% from 3 and he's going to try to get 40% this year. As a backup pg I really like Ish.

I like Ish, but I’d much rather have a quality impact backup guard that can guard multiple positions and rebound. Players like Van Fleet and Satoransky for us are invaluable. I’m sure Ish will be very average running the 2nd unit, but with the potential of guys like Winston, Brown Jr, and Neto, I’d much rather see if we can move Ish ASAP.

VanVleet is getting 4 years/85 million.

VanVleet is the NBA player - who's much better than Sato. Van Fleet is the musical group that sounds like Led Zeppelin.
Ish is the player we don't want taking jump shots unless he's wide open. I concur that it makes sense to trade Ish. Otoh, be careful about trading him for a player with a multi-year deal.

He shot 37% from 3.

That was already said. And he's still not a good shooter unless he's wide open.

Sad to say that only injury stops Brooks from playing his beloved 3 PG midget line ups

Man, the decision to burn a roster spot on a redundant 3rd PG like Neto is looking great in hindsight.

Resurrecting last year's Ish thread

Putting this here. Looking at Ish's +/- effect in various line-ups the dude shows up pretty well.

Ish is at least a competent NBA PG with a very good handle (and unselfish). He'll help our young players. Heck, I wouldn't be surprised if we kept him next year as a backup PG.
Seconded on that front. We need a veteran to mentor any young PG we get, and to motivate our young bigs/get them into the action. Ish does that well, he knows his role.
Ish played well with Gafford last year. And Rui.
Gafford put up solid +/- numbers with everybody on the squad last year, but still he and Ish were one of his better 2-man combinations, accounting for +5.4pts/100 possessions. (Behind only Westbrook, Bertans, and Beal).
https://www.basketball-reference.com/players/g/gaffoda01/lineups/2021And with Rui, in their 270 minutes together they were +7pts/100 possessions. In fact of the top 10 (minutes played) two-man line-ups that Rui played in, Ish was the ONLY player next to whom Rui had a positive +/-.
https://www.basketball-reference.com/players/h/hachiru01/lineups/2021Hell, look at Ish in his 3-man line-ups. Last year dude did not post a negative total in any of his top 10 three-player combinations. It's pretty remarkable.
https://www.basketball-reference.com/players/s/smithis01/lineups/2021Ish was not the problem last year.

We already have our starting point guard and hes a lot like Kevin Porter was with the wizards many years ago When they were known as the Washington bullets
I am also trying to remember the veteran who played for the wizards forever and he he was still around when we added Gilbert Arenas
These guys have remembered history and they are gonna do stuff it works now
Bravo

Chris Whitney?
I still recall him playing with two sprained ankles when Rod Strickland was out with constipation. That is, when Rod was out because he didn't give a shxt.

my only issue with ish I think stems from Scotty Brooks insistence to play him in three guard sets lol
