GT #6: Washington Wizards @ Minnesota TWolves 1/1/2021 8:00PM

The Wizards open the New Year in Minnesota after going winless in December.

Westbrook will sit out because it's a back-to-back.
Karl Anthony-Towns and Josh Okogie are out for Minnesota.

Minnesota last played on Tuesday the 29th in a loss to the Clippers. They're 2-2

Not sure whether to root for a win, or to root for a loss that might lead to Brooks being fired.

Why is westbrook out? Are they trying to keep him fresh for the playoffs?

Probably a win and the first of a streak of consecutive wins.

I came here to ask the same. Surely rest goes out the window when your 0-5?

I think this is still experimenting time. I’m good with the Wizards sticking with load management if that’s why Westbrook is out. Sixty-seven more regular season games remain.

Apparently the player we acquired is damaged goods. For a player who is supposedly a freak athlete he has seemed pretty pedestrian IMO. I don't see any explosiveness to his game or burst. I thought he was the superior athlete compared to Wall, but he's not. Wall was definitely faster. Westbrook seems to have above average but not elite speed. He also would not consider him a quick twitch nor above the rim athlete. Skill-wise I'm unimpressed with his vision or handle. This is the first I've really paid attention to him, and I am disapointed. This player i have watched these first few games is not on the level of Wall or Arenas. He also seems to need a lot of rest. He's the first to sub out. He can't play in back to backs. He sat out preseason. Was not allowed to dunk during practice?

So I don't know is he just not in game shape? Is he holding back? Is he feeling his way into a new team? Does he usually start the season like this? Is it age? Is he injured? That I don't know... My guess is he's injured. The question is to what extent. Looks to me like his knees are shot. Hopefully it will get better, but odds are, at his age these situations usually tend to get worse.

Many good questions. But I must point out that, although coming out first, he is the first sub out because he comes back in with the 2nd unit. His 2nd stint of each half is very long. Overall, he is playing as many minutes as Beal (albeit, minus the back-to-backs).

I found this to be a very informative breakdown over all the losses. People are at fault everywhere on this team, but Westbrook has a big share of the miscues on defense and lots of very blatant stuff.

Geez if we can't beat that team there's no hope for this season.

Thanks for posting this, Meliorus.

It is very informative—different players are making mistakes all around. The failure to acquire a rim protector (Lopez ain’t it) is burning the Wizards as this breakdown shows.

As we all know lineups and coaching could be better.

:D Lopez gave up basically 10 points on his own in a row in one of those Orlando games. Our analytics office fell for one cherry picked statistic.

Lopez was a stealth tank move. Sheppard is a genius, Fade for Cade.

Winston activated so Brooks can unleash his 3 PG lineup on the TWolves!

Why does Beal take so many mid-rangers nowadays...
