Neto is good defensively, but he can't handle Mitchell's strength.

Teams just go at Lopez and Len relentlessly in the PnR.

This. The Wiz are in dire need of a competent center

Welp. This looks like a dub. Jazz don’t care.

Hope I’m wrong

I'm going to be honest, Lopez isn't good enough offensively to be on the floor this much. Especially when we also have Bertans on the floor. We have two slow-footed defenders that teams just go at relentelessly. This is why we struggle defensively.

You see what happens once Lopez is off the floor for that final Jazz play of the quarter? They PnR with Westbrook's man. Wizards easily switch and Mitchell misses at the rim. We desperately need an athletic big who can switch and not be a disaster. Having Len and Lopez just sag into the paint while the ball handler snakes around, probes and gets whatever he wants simply isn't working. Beal went off in that quarter, if we could even come close to stopping the Jazz we'd be up 30. Instead, the Jazz basically scored on almost every possession.

Westbrook and Beal starting the fourth quarter. Talk about being desperate for a win.

I couldn't care less about his plus minus. Watch the game. Lopez in the PnR is a disaster. This is why big slow footed players like Jahlil Oakafor and Roy Hibbert are out the game. Defensively, I'd go so far as to argue that even if Lopez plays well defensively he's still bad, because he forces us to play an inherently flawed defensive scheme. If we had an athletic big like Precious Achiuwa, we'd be switching everything.

I believe the strategy is to give up the floaters and push shots from 8-12 feet rather than Gobert dunks and open 3's.

This is so Wizards.

Beating down a great team after sustained suckiness.
Bye bye Beal.

Sure. The goal is to find an agile switchy big who is still strong enough to defend guys like Embiid and Valanciunas, while also getting a ton of boards. I want Bam Adebayo too. But Lopez has been pretty good. Yeah, he's not switchable so we have to play drop coverage, but he is pretty good at protecting the rim.

Go back and think about how every team attacks us. It's not even complicated. It give the ball to the best offensive player and attack either our centers or Bertans in the PnR. Lopez is a dinosaur. He's a situational player at best. And if you want to circle any reason why this team is 14 - 25, you should definitely circle the center position. Westbrook showed what he could do last year when the Rockets went small and played 5 out. On offense, Lopez clogs the paint making our cutters and our drives less efficient. On defense, he can't switch and forces us to try to hide his weaknesses in our schemes. I can understand not being able to do both, but if you can't do either, you're not a starting center in this league imo.
