As a 6-6 wing player with a rep as a good 3pt shooter, Homesly definitely fills a critical need if he can knock down that 3 ball at a good rate.

Homesley stats are unimpressive, then again neither were Garrison Matthews in the G League.

If any of that contract is guaranteed, Tommy must be paying off a debt. Caleb wasn't even particularly good in his 5 years at Liberty. Maybe he's a good defender? Bizarre to sign him now,

He was with the team in training camp... so not surprising signing for the offseason.

He looked terrible in preseason. Shot pretty much every time he got the ball. Which, for Steph Curry is fine. Problem is he didn’t even come close to making many.

Odd signing at this juncture.

Who knows. He’s certainly ‘toolsy’ but I’m not sure there’s much professional level Bball in him

I hope it's to get favor with Jalen Brunson.

Ah! I was trying to remember which preseason guy he was. Then I read your post. He’s the guy who shot it EVERY time he got the ball, no matter how open or covered he was. I distinctly remember some of his shots hitting the side of the backboard, thinking to myself “Ok, that’s a good lesson for the kid. Hopefully he learned to tone it down.” Then seeing him take the same stupid shot the next possession and saying “Well he’ll never be in this league.”

 I totally forgot about that.

Every time he sniffed the ball he would launch a contested 30 foot brick. Some of the ugliest misses you will ever see.

Physically, he looks the part, and the ball comes out of his hand smoothly, it just never goes in. Also, looks like he should be a good defender, no clue if he is or not though.

I'm sure the Zards brass also saw those ugly misses by Homesley during the preseason. But yet they signed him. I'm guessing they saw some things in Caleb over the past several months that we were not privy to.

BTW, a lot of young people make bad decisions, especially when they're trying to impress someone. So I'm not too bothered by him taking stupid shots. That's something that can be corrected.

Well sure. That kind of goes without saying. If they were basing their signings off of his pre-season performances, then he wouldn’t have been signed.

Absolutely. As they did when they traded a lottery pick for Markieff Morris. & when they gave a R2 pick to get rid of... Markieff Morris. As they did when they signed Nicholson. & when they gave a lottery pick to get rid of... Nicholson. As they did when they acquired Austin Rivers. Etc. etc.

"They must know something we don't know" is not a way to defend a Front Office move.

OTOH, a knee-jerk reaction that anything the Wizards do has to be stupid... that's no better! Worse probably, since it's negative (& yet it did seem that way for a while!)

What certainly is true, however, is that they will have reasons to do things that we aren't in on. In this case, if I had to guess, I'd say this move has next to nothing to do with basketball -- i.e. in the sense that they would have signed Caleb Homesley, because they think he can play successfully in the NBA. That is really hard to imagine.

What is it? Who knows.... But they seem to have a reason to want to give him some $$ right now, to sign him at this weird moment.

Then again, it would be great to be surprised, to find that a guy who wasn't good enough to play for a high-level, or even a mid-level, college program, & who didn't even play all that well in the low-level environment where he was, would all of a sudden become an NBA player.

That would be great, so it's what we should all want.

Not just young people. However many bad decisions Caleb Homesley has made, I guarantee you I've made at least an order of magnitude more of them! :)

Speaking of Calebs and making bad decisions, let's pull for Caleb Swanigan to get his life back. https://www.totalprosports.com/2021/05/19/ex-nba-player-caleb-swanigan-responds-to-social-media-being-shocked-about-his-weight-gain-pic/
