I was right about...

Post#1 » by Chocolate City Jordanaire » Sat May 22, 2021 6:53 pm

As I watch this playoff game Milwaukee versus Miami with the sound off I noticed one player on the Bucks, Bobby Portis.

Very good rebounder. Has three point range. Can dribble from the outside in and finish with a floater. Can back his opponent down and go over his right shoulder and back the shot in.

I do recall saying the wizards should not have traded the draft pick just to acquire Kelly Oubre. I did say they should have drafted by the Porsche

(Error left in purposefully)

Bobby Portis or Anthony girl or AnthonySkill Anthony gill oh Rui Hachimura? If they all made the same salary which one would you pick?

Gafford is the sleeping giant. He's the one who should go top 5 but will slip.

Portis still can't defend a chair. Playing alongside Giannis helps a lot. It allows him to defend slower centers but without having to protect the rim.

I'd take Hachimura over Portis. I'd definitely take Hachimura with 2 more years of experience over Portis.

The real debate a while ago was Portis versus Oubre. They have similar impact IMO. Both guys are pretty good coming off the bench, but leave much to be desired as a starter. I think Oubre's season a year ago in Phoenix was probably better than any of Portis'. I also think Oubre gets an edge with positional rareness. PF/C's are a dime-a-dozen. Respectable wings who can guard 2 through 4 are precious.

Okay I'll tell you what. I'll take a chair and that other draft pick that the Wizards wasted on Kelly oubre and I'm still right

PFCs to include Tim Duncan, Kevin Garnett, Chris Bosh, Chris Webber, BAM ADEBAYO..Okonwu, Gifford (clearly better than Deni, Rui, Kelly Oubre)...

Not a dime a dozen.

Evan Mobley

Sengun?

As a general rule I understand and agree with you, nate33. The guys who can defend on the perimeter and switch and cover pick and roll a very important. Dinosaurs like Robin Lopez are being phased out. But I would not say Center powerful words are a dime a dozen. Not powerful words...Power forwards

In this draft I kind of have a feeling trevion Williams might end up going back to Purdue but he belongs in the NBA.

Thanks, pif! Greatly appreciated.

Aside from you and other great sages on RGM, I like to listen to this younger guy (Jocko Willink is ten years younger than I am -- he'll be 50 in Sept)

This year is going to be a point guard. I think the kid at Auburn should be top five. And I also think Cameron Thomas is going to go way too late in the draft.

Off his play in college, I thought Bobby Portis would be a great NBA player. Didn't happen. Yet, like almost every NBA player, there were guys picked above him in his draft who didn't turn out even as well as he has. & guys picked way later who have been terrific.

All the same, debating between him & Oubre doesn't exactly lead us into realms of excellence!

Well, certainly -- with the benefit of hindsight, i.e. knowing what Bobby Portis' development path has been, & given that Rui has some years of possible development in him before we learn where he is going to peak. I.e. I wouldn't be interested in trading Rui for Portis (more out of lack of interest in Portis than anything else).

But, if they were both in the same draft, say? I.e. Bobby Portis coming out 4 months after his 20th birthday, given the two years he'd had at Arkansas vs. Rui coming out 4 months after his 21st birthday, given the three years he'd had at Gonzaga?

Leave out the fact that Rui is Japanese, & I don't think it's likely that anyone would take him over Portis.

To put it another way, based on Rui's play in college I rated him to go near the end of R1.
