I don't know if I should be happy that Brooks is gone or sad that they were actually negotiating a new contract and Brooks opted to not take the offer. Honestly, I think it's the latter for me and I have less confidence today in Tommy than I did yesterday.

Just let the young boys play! It's truly the only hope at this point.

I think that was purely PR. If they wanted him back, he'd be back. I doubt he's in demand.

That dude had the unmitigated gall to refuse a new contract? The last $35 million must have been so good that he was expecting even more.
Either that or the lowball must’ve been just insulting to him. Good.

Brooks turning down any offer means he's almost certainly out the league. Curious how bad (good) the conditions were.
Oh well, great day for DC.

Re: [WOJ] Wizards and Head Coach Scott Brooks Part Ways.....
Is it parting ways when you let a contract lapse?
Anyway, this is basically what I anticipated, a low ball take it or leave it offer of the optics are everything variety.
Deciding not to continue to work with Brooks makes sense when you're not following it up with an uninspiring budget hire from the retread pile.
Anybody really expecting a lame duck GM having the authority to break the bank for an inspiring hire?

This news made a lot of people happy!
I am glad to know that Russell Westbrook and even Bradley Beal are not running the team.

According to Quinton Mayo, they were going to neuter him. Replace his entire coaching staff and probably give him a year deal with a team option for the second year.

That was gangster. It’s like firing him without firing him. Good.
This way he quits and Russell Westbrook can’t say a damn thing about it.

I certainly hope you're right and Tommy S. is a strategic genius!

Chase Hughes, aka the mouth piece of Monumental, suggests a few names. Yes to Wes Unseld, Sam Cassell, Becky Hammon and Kenny Atkinson! No to Mark Jackson or Robert Pack...

Eh, it's fine if Shep offered Brooks a doodoo sandwich to keep Russ somewhat placated, with the full understanding that Brooks was unlikely to accept.
This isn't inconsistent with Mayo's reporting. If Shep insisted on turning over the entire assistant staff, Brooks might have said screw it. He can always head to the college ranks. And, he seems well liked enough that he can get an assistant coach gig, based solely on his apparent ability to get along with star players.

Always remember, my friend: the world will change again. And you may have to come back through everywhere you've been.

Re: [WOJ] Wizards and Head Coach Scott Brooks Part Ways.....
1. I can’t believe there were actual negotiations for a new contract. Even if the contract was minuscule, even if he was forced to give up control of his choice of assistants, the fact that there were even negotiations is mind-boggling and something you would never see with competitive franchises.
2. The fact that Brooks turned down literally any offer is hilarious.
3. Let’s not celebrate until we see who the new hire is. Just because Brooks sucked doesn’t mean his replacement won’t suck more. This franchise, historically, makes the wrong choice 99/100 times when it comes to…..anything. So let’s proceed with caution.
