"Players can get hot" is an excuse - we let him get hot by not switching our scheme when it wasn't working. Check out the tape yourself if you don't believe me.

This one was on the coaches, period.

0:35 - drop coverage by daniel gafford, DG never picks up, roll man never recovers, Simons walks into a middy floater
1:24 - PnR attacking Montrezl Harrel, drop coverage, Simons walks into a 3
1:36 - PnR on MH, drop coverage, Simons side steps in an easy 3
1:45 - We actually trap the PnR with Thomas Bryant and Neto, with good help defense by Dinwiddie initial then Dinwiddie just plays matador defense and lets Nurkic go for the lay up
2:04 - drop coverage again by DG, no pressure on ball handler, allows Simons to make an easy pocket pass for the Nurkic layup
2:14 - drop coverage again by DG, Simons walks into a wide open 3
2:26 - drop coverage again by DG, no pressure, Simons walks into another easy 3
2:40 - another PnR attacking DG, this time they run it from the halfcourt logo, DG plays a little higher this time as they realize they are being cooked but at this point its the same story, Simons walks into another 3

This is all just from the 1st half too lol. All easy shots and reads, except the last 3 but at that point it's way too late. You can live with the excuse that superstars "just get hot" and beat you. Because they are superstars. But not role players. You force the ball out of their hands with a trap/hedge and force them to make a different read with pre-switching on the roll. There's a reason they are role players and not starters. (Not knocking Simons, though, he's a decent young player. But you have to force them to make plays).
