RIP, Gene Shoe. He was the Bullets coach when I first started watching them - a terrific coach. He just missed out on the glory years of Dick Motta by a few years. But he was a Baltimore guy and didn't want to make the move to DC - at least that's my recollection.

RIP Gene Shue.

He did have a stint in Washington, which I remember from when I was a young kid.

Gene Shue was a very nice man, a good coach, and a very good player back in the early days of the NBA and at Maryland. My first year as a ballboy was his last year as a Bullets head coach before eventually getting the Clippers' job. He later became the GM of the Sixers.

My recollection is like that of Ruz. He's the first Bullet's coach I remember watching.
I didn't really appreciate the amount of success we had during Unseld's playing career.
4 Finals during the 70s even though we lost 3 of them. Probably should have won
3 of them...the one vs GS (led in the second half of every game) and the second SEA
series where we didn't have Dandridge or Kupchek.
