Tommy managed to draft a player who wasn’t even listed under Kevin Broom’s YODA.
Well done!

Tommy doing a Sanon 2.0 draft selection

This is why it was so devastating to not get a brand new GM from outside the building

Underrated doesn't begin to describe it.
Ironic and clearly better than GMEG who took a player with a similar profile of
athletic talent/basketball skills with a pick at the opposite end of the draft
from where Nzosa was picked. 54 vs 6.

At 18 yo, we need to give him some slack. This is a pick where you are swinging for the fences. If he develops a shot, all of a sudden, he may become a blip on the radar. If, in 2 years, he develops more, then this pick may look “genius”.
(But we are #SoWizards, so what are the chances?)

18 years old with a 41 year old face (and a 41 year old body).

Shepp literally drafted a guy so he wouldn't have to worry about using a roster spot to bring him over. Basically just threw away the pick with no attempt to add legitimate talent.
This is just like Sanon pick a few years back.

Ehhh. Those last 5 picks in the 2nd get squirrelly because agents have worked the phones to request teams NOT draft their players so they can sign as UDFA's.
Taking the youngest guy in the draft with tremendous defensive upside/versatility is FAR better than taking some 22 y/o Junior that overpowered weaker/smaller players and doesn't project much.
Let him play 3-4 years in one of the best leagues in the world and re-evaluate then.
Far better prospect than Sanon.

With the 54th pick, I think this might actually be the right strategy with only 4 picks left in the draft.
Grab the high-upside boom/bust project and see if he develops overseas. You want to use a pick on him because, if he does develop, you need to make sure you have his draft rights if he gets good enough to become an impact player in the NBA. That way, you've got him for four years.
If there were other sleepers you liked - marginal role players who might be able to come off your bench right away, just go ahead and sign them as undrafted walk-ons a la Garrison Matthews. There are only 4 picks after #54, so the risk is pretty low that someone else drafts him before he is eligible to be signed as a free agent.

Why not take a flyer on a PG, Boston & Milwaukee did with their 2nd rounders, and Miami nabbed PG Jamaree Bouyea who went undrafted.
Tommy said he wanted to show loyalty to his G-League guys, but he's bringing in Kris Dunn who left the NBA injury plagued, this is an Ernie move.

I absolutely don't hate it. It's a fine pick at 54. Toss we might not see him till he's 22 which is fine ! That's still young and if by then he shows first round tallent. If he can stay on the floor on offense and show some elite defence great if not what are tot out? Nothing .

No it isn't, it's speculating on a prospect who had a lottery/just outside the lottery grade just 9 months ago before he turned in a comically inept draft year offensive season.
Great chance he's a great big ball of nothing, but there's also a chance he becomes a monster, and barring that, a monster defensive weapon.
People are screaming bloody murder over a very late 2nd rounder used on a guy who had top 10-15 potential just last fall. I don't get this at all, and all for a team that's straight trash and that if we got a miniscule ceiling but moderate floor usable tool with the pick, who knows, we could be risking access to our 1st next year in a better draft.
There's literally no downside to the pick. It protects the tank, and adds upside and long term potential. I don't understand the hatred of it, it makes no sense to me. At no point did Sanon ever get projected into the lottery, this guy was, by a ton of people, following his performance in the '20-'21 season as a 17 year old.
You know basketball way better than I do, and are way more informed than me, no doubt, but in terms of team building, this is everything a crap franchise w/an at risk protected '23 first rounder should do, in my opinion anyway.

Let me ask a question: are we a deep team with talent at every spot & no room to add anyone?
Uuuhhhh, no.
So... were there no players with upside who would have a solid chance to make the team right now?
How about Keon Ellis? Trevion Williams? We're too good to take a flyer on someone like those guys?

While there were guys I wanted. I don't hate the pick. I mean he has more up side than any player at that point. Yes the team has needs it also needs assets if this kid starts putting up numbers in euro ball he has value.
