GT #4: Pistons @ Bullets 7 PM (NBCSW/980 AM) [10/25/22]

Washington has started off the season 2-1. So far they have beaten the Pacers who were playing without Myles Turner and a Bulls team playing without Zach Lavine and Lonzo Ball. The Pistons in the meantime have only managed to win their opening game against the Orlando Magic and then went on to lose to the Knicks by 24 points and the Pacers by 9 points.

Big questions-

- Can the Wizards win the game and maintain their playoff positioning or will they lose and begin their tank positioning for Victor Wembanyama?

- Will Johnny Davis get to play against Jaden Ivey or will he get another DNP?

- Will Bradley Beal get to the free throw line more than he has so far this season? So far he's only averaging 3.3 FTA per game?

- Will Porzingis go off? So far Porzingis has failed to score more than 18 points this season and only averaging 15.7 ppg and 8 rpg in 33 mpg - whereas last season he averaged 22 ppg and 8.8 rpg in 28 mpg.

Let's take KP's rebs out of the equation. Most rebs are d-rebs and actually catching the ball is about 100 times less important than insuring that the person you are matched up with doesn't catch the ball (aka boxing out). True in the NBA finals, true in your local pick up games.

I see some good things and some not so good things in the Beal-Porzingis on court relationship so far. Kinda emblematic of the worst was about ~1m into OT in G3 when the play was a p'n'r and Beal never looked for the easy 2 for Porzingis. But, I'm willing to give them some time to work it out as I think there will be radical echelons this year in terms of teams ambitions. So, it's kinda the middle 7 teams plus the Wiz to really contest wins. Unless the team is much much better or worse than seems likely. (Those extreme outcomes would be Beal-KP politics influenced .. assuming no physical injuries.)

All eyes will be on Ivey

But Duren is probably going to DOMINATE on the boards

And our old friend Bojan will get cooking too.

We should win this one comfortably. Pistons just not a very good team, especially defensively. 2 years from now though watch out. Maybe Johnny makes his debut in garbage time.

MUST.WIN.GAME

wins now count the same as wins later. Make hay while the sun shines.
Unless that is you're all in on VW.

Huge game. If we win we're 3-1. If we lose we're 2-2. I'll have some more in depth analysis later.

Given that using the ordinary tools of intellection we can see that, over a whole season, 3-1 extends to over 60 wins, while, on the other hand, 2-2 -- whether extended (to any length, really) or all on its own -- cannot be viewed as anything other than "average," it would appear that our entire season depends on winning tonight.

Keep an eye on the entry passes to KP tonight .The guards have been slow to pass and their passes arent high enough. Also going to watch to see if Morris and Wright can get in the paint and create some opportunities.

Beal might as well stop shooting 3s

Brad has turned into a 6-3 DeRozan. A creator with a very good mid-range shot and is a subpar three-point shooter.

No idea why Bojan ended up being passed from team to team like a game of pass the parcel. You'd think a contender would want him. Every year.
