GT #32: Bullets @ Suns 9 PM (NBCSW/980 AM) [12/20/22]

YOUR Washington Bullets are 11-20!

LOSERS OF 10 IN A ROW, their road trip continues in THE VALLEY to face the Suns.

Phoenix had lost 5 in a row but broke that streak behind Devin Booker's 58 point eruption against the Pelicans (who've become rivals it seems).

The tank rolls on!

I’m sure if you asked Wes Hall, he’d say this was a battle of league powerhouses. Absolute must-see TV.

But if you asked me, someone not on Ted’s payroll, I’d say “Let the tank roll on!”

I wish everyone associated with NBC Sports Washington could take truth serum. I think everyone would say that this team sucks and needs to tank. Even Drew Gooden (who has been around the league obviously) knows this team sucks. Everyone except Chris Miller.

Guaranteed loss. The tank rolls on.

The Wizards have completely lost the ability to play defense. Over the past 15 games, they've posted a DRtg of 119.3, which would be dead last in the league. The only game they won in that stretch was the game against Minnesota. The defense was still awful, but the Wizards managed to hit 48% of their 3's so it didn't matter.

A better way to look at it is that they've lost the ability to play as a team, both offensively and defensively. WUJ has ceded all control to the team, where we have 3 "special" players that are guaranteed heavy minutes, a lot of shots, and don't have exert effort or display fundamentals on defense. You rip away any sort of incentive system when you completely cave to that, don't think other players aren't watching.

We may have never been a good team as currently constructed, but WUJ also couldn't get players to commit. One way to make players commit is limit said players minutes if they aren't committed to a core philosophy. The only players WUJ has had the spine to do that to is young players, even though they are the least of the problem.

It's a complete joke. These "special" players going on podcast talking about how they had no other options so took the money, or talking about opting out when they go back to play the team they miss, etc., yet we wonder why the culture is the way it is. You think any of the other players on the team would get in the trenches for Kuzma or Beal when they are talking like they have one foot out the door?

I know it's too much to ask, but if WUJ wanted to salvage any bit of credibility he'd say in a diplomatic way to shut up and focus on the team, or I'll look for leadership somewhere else. At some point as a coach you have to say am I going to be afraid of certain players my whole career or am I going to have a uniform way of how I run a team that applies to all players?

Great post.

I'm wondering, there is any past example of a coach who has shown real ego management issues in his first NBA team, who has developed to be good at that over time, with that same team? I really starting to doubt it WUJ can change it, nor has the personality to change it. I didn't see any learning curve from him in this regard. If anything, It only got worse. He has enough coaching experience as an assistant to know what it takes to deal with egos. I doubt he's ever gonna become some tough and charismatic person, who suddenly learns how to make the best out of his vets. Some coaches just doesn't have this ability and that's why they would stick as assistants.

I’m afraid Wes Jr ain’t’ it, he is just a weenie. Zero ability to lead and command the respect of the team. Just compare him to the likes of Spoelstra…chalk and cheese!

not to be overly nitpicky but 4 of the guys listed in the OP aren't playing tonight Booker, Payne, Okogie, and Landale. so Wizards probably have a good chance of breaking the losing streak considering Suns on the 2nd of a back to back and still without Cam Johnson and whoever eventually replaces Crowder.

I take it you haven't watched any Wizards games this year then (understandable).

just partial games, seems on paper the Wizards should be pretty decent though.

I kind of agree. Huge trap game for us. Need to buckle down and get after it if we're going to lose this one.

There is a single objective left: TANK HARD! No Booker should not deter our aims.

Gafford playing well, would have been if Gill or Gibson would have gotten the start again with Porzingis out.

Kispert free throws over the last month have been a head scratcher.

Beal out there embarrassing himself, letting his shooting impact the "rest" of his game.

No KP and Beal is 1 for 8 so of course they are winning! Helps that CP3 looks like a G-League player at 0-5 with 3 turnovers and Ayton misses too many shots in the paint. Gaff nice job with 10 pts and 6 rebs.

Oh yeah, Booker is the Suns' offense so that's a huge loss.

Tank might need some repair. Suns can't make a shot to save their lives.
