How much would you pay Kuzma?

Post#1 » by penbeast0 » Fri Jun 30, 2023 1:23 am

With the cap space for teams drying up, Kyle Kuzma is (not a shock) not getting the big offers that he's been talking about. Maybe Houston will still throw money at him but if not, what if he returns here. How much would you pay him?

Let me put this up front. I don't think he's a good NBA starter, maybe a hot hand reserve, and I'd only pay him reserve money or just let him walk or sign overseas.

Really makes the decision not to trade him at the deadline look stupid....

What possible benefit does he bring to a team that's rebuilding from the ground up? Plus, with the two rookies we already have 17 guys with guaranteed regular-roster contracts. 16 if Gallinari is bought out.

I like Kuz -- he's an interesting guy. I hope he winds up on an NBA team, but I see no reason whatever for the Wizards to sign him.

Probably a little less than what Barnes just got. How about 15-17/yr?

The most I think we can give him off his bird rights is for a 1 year deals is 22.5. I'd give him that on a one year deal just to eat the money we have to burn anyway and try to move him to a contender at the deadline.

3/50? I don’t want him back but at some point the price is right. If he avoids injury chances are he can be easily moved and maybe even for some decent draft compensation. Him taking minutes from Deni or other young forwards wouldn’t be ideal though

This’ll be very interesting if the Rockets sign Van Vleet and Brooks.

The Pistons are rumored to try and give Cam Johnson a $100M offer sheet. The Nets will probably match but that ties cap space from Detroit.

San Antonio is looking at PGs and Cs to help Wembanyama.

Sacramento just re-signed Barnes for 3 years $54M.

Indiana is rumored to be going after Max Strus at 3 years $48M. They’re also rumored to be going after Bruce Brown.

If the money dries up, Kuz’s best option would be to re-sign. I’d offer 3 years $60M. It’s more salary to be used in trades.

Also, S&Ts trigger the HARD CAP at the first apron ($172M).

I really don't understand the Kuzma hatred around here. The guy is a solid NBA player.

If the market on him has cooled enough so that he costs just over MLE money, I'd pay to keep him. Sign him to a flat or declining deal if possible.

Remember, there's no advantage to being the worst team in the league. Being the 4th worst gets you the same lotto odds but with less psychological damage from the endless losing.

I expect us to S&T Kuz. I agree with you on him. He'd be a valuable player for any contender because he can credibly guard wings and bigs. He can play small-ball 5. Maybe a S&T to NY to get our pick back? We take on Fournier's expiring for example.

Actually, there is an advantage to being the worst team Nate. See https://www.tankathon.com/pick_odds.

Worst team can pick no lower than 6th. Also, they have a much higher chance of getting the 5th pick vs teams 2-3. The odds are the same for picks 1-4 for the worst three teams.

Nothing. Re-signing him would be an awful decision.

I would sign him to a 2 year deal with a player option for the second year. It gets him back on the market next year where he legitimately might be a top 5 free agent candidate. It sounds like his agent played this all wrong, it's not my money, but I probably would have opted in and just figured it out next offseason. It's his first time being a free agent and I doubt Detroit was the end game all along.

He should get at least the MLE. He opted out for that salary.

That makes him virtually worthless to us as a trade asset, and that's really the only rationale to resign him.

If we resign him, we need at least 2 years of control.

The full MLE is at ~$12.5 million this year no?

I'd pay him around 150% of that, so 3 years ~$60 million. I'd be willing to throw in a 4th year with a player option.

That's for any team not named Washington Wizards

As the Wizards GM the only thing I would extend is the offer to entertain sign and trade scenarios.

I'd do Kuzma on a relatively cheap deal for two years. Anything more than say 18, per annum, I'd say tough luck chuck. As Nate said, he would have to give us team option for that to happen.

Something like 4 years 80m

President Donald Trump referred to African countries, Haiti and El Salvador as "shithole" nations during a meeting Thursday and asked why the U.S. can't have more immigrants from Norway.
