Preseason game thread Wizards @ Raptors

Post#1 » by BearlyBallin » Fri Oct 20, 2023 9:04 pm

Read on Twitter

Both teams undefeated in preseason face each other in Toronto. With final cuts just 3 days away and the season opener @Indiana in 5 days this will likely be the last time we see some of these players as a Wizard.

The offense took center stage vs the Knicks last game. Is that the identity of this team?

Honestly as much fun as that game was vs NY. In some ways I can’t help but feel coach Unseld Jr would prefer a strong defensive showing. Your shot can be off some nights, but strong defense will always keep you in the game.

Go Wizards !

I thought they were pretty solid defensively versus the Knicks. Brunson and Randle struggled mightily, and it might have been even more one-sided if they were able to minimize the second chance points.

Anyway, this will be a nice test of the team's mental makeup.

What are the chances the Wizards actually play any of their projected starters?

Their opener is 5 days out and training camp wraps today.

I'd be surprised seeing starters play more than a quarter, if at all.

Deni getting involved on the offensive end. Looking better tonight.

Wizards rebounding and playing defense. I like this start.

Considering they don't have Kuz and Jekyll and Poole is off, I thought they played fine. Ultimately, they are going to struggle against any team on the boards. The centers are the tank and that's fine. We need a top five pick, but I don't mind putting a team out there that will at least compete.

I know that's a tough team to drive against, but Deni could have had close to 20 in that first half if he could drive and finish left. I don't love him at the 4 spot and I see where he'll probably back up Kuz in the regular season. But it's good to see him dropping threes and playing D. Bilal is 19 and sometimes we forget that. But when I look at OG, Siakam and Barnes, I don't think it's hyperbole to say that he could be one of those guys one day when he fills out.

Wow, Jordan Poole, that dude would shoot the ball if he had no hands. Why am I getting Jordan Crawford vibes?

Jordan Poole, Jordan Crawford, Michael Jordan. All the Jordans want to come here and play 1v1.

And Poole...looks terrible. Actually, the whole team minus Deni looked pretty awful.

So much for watching competitive basketball. I don't think Patrick Baldwin Jr. belongs on an NBA floor right now.

He's more of a garbage-man thriving on misses and broken plays on offense. The Wizards likely have plenty of those this season. I think Bilal is probably an OG-level talent given a bit of time, with a dash of star upside if he really pushes through. He's a guy the Wizards desperately need to hang on to and with Poole and Kuz doing their thing, the kind of stuff he does out there is desperately needed.

PBJ is this year’s I-Todd

Poole - hard to be any less consistent from night -night

If he’s on, he’s really on. And vice versa.
