Bub Carrington

Post#1 » by tontoz » Thu Jun 27, 2024 1:46 am

His jumper off the dribble is legit. Hopefully the extra spacing in the NBA will make it easier for him to get to the rim.

18. Shot the 3 better late in the year. Doesn't turn it over much I like it.

Would have been a decent pick if it didn't involve losing Deni in the cotdamn process. Anyway, meh. There were better options at this spot.

I’m very surprised by this pick, he is slow and not a good jumper. Then again not a lot of good options available, I would have gone with knecht.

I do like Bub okay as an upside play. Young, tall PG. Self creation skills. Room to grow into his body, late growth spurt, and being one of the youngest guys in the draft suggests he may still have more to go. Positional length for sure.

Saved his best game of the season for last:

He must have blown the FO away when they brought him in for that late tryout and interview. Seems like a mad scramble to get the pick specifically for him.

Has a tight handle and is the best off-the-dribble, midrange shooter in the draft.

Handle isn't that tight.

He's a better option than Poole at PG, if he reverts back to his shot-jacking self.

Will he be at the level of Haliburton in 4 years?

Because if not, then we just gave away a 16 and 9 guy who plays good defense and is a good teammate — and who will blow up in Portland and hit a new level — for him.

If he’s not better than Deni in 4 years, and the FO apparently targeted him, then this trade is a MASSIVE fail.

Who cares? We got Bub.

What makes you think Carrington is, or will be, anything special? I'm not denying the possibility (for him or any player); I just want to know what it is that has you excited about him.

I think you said he was a really good shooter. Except... no, he isn't. He posted a .496 efg%, which is (not to put too fine a point on it) terrible. He did shoot FTs pretty well, but he didn't get to the line all that much. His other numbers are nothing special.

I'm not saying he's going to bust; I have no reason to think that. But I don't see a lottery pick. I don't see anything to get excited about.

His workout must have been lights out to the point that it made them trade Deni.

If Deni is as good as more than half the people on this page think he is, then Deni would be requesting a new bigger contract in 3 years like the Knicks will be paying Anunoby. I for one am glad that the front office is harvesting their nuts, or picks in this case, for players that they don't see in the long term plan. We don't want to spend our money on Deni, before we get that great player.
Otherwise we'll end up doing a complete circle back to what we had 2 years ago with Beal leading the team.

We got younger last night and have more shots at getting a great player. We're setting our team up to grow with whoever we pick next year. This front office and coach seems to be really good at developing players. I have faith that they will be able to get the best out of the players that they selected last night. I'm as excited as I have been to be a Wizards fan since John Wall jumped on the scores table against Boston. My favorite player to route for last year was Bilal and can't wait to route for Sarr, Bub Carrington and Keyshon George. All 3 look like good picks from what I've read.

If we don't have our great player in 3 years then this rebuild was a failure and the front office should be sacked.

LOL not at all. But DA said they brought him for a last minute workout and it must have been lights out to trade Deni, a guy that was improving every year and has one of the best contracts in the NBA. There’s no other explanation for it

I particularly like Bub’s size and length, as well as his ability to get to anywhere he wants on the floor and quickly rise up and score over even taller defenders.

His midrange game is very impressive for a 18 year old.

As you probably know, I was a big fan of Carrington's game even before the Zards drafted him. It's his upside that has me excited.

Bubs midrange game off the dribble is elite but his inability to get to the rim and finish is a major concern, especially given his size.

Yup…has to get much better at getting to the rim. I’m sure both he and the Zards know that. Bub was under 6 feet a few short yrs ago…says at that size getting to the rim was not really an option.
