GT #55: Bucks @ Bullets 7 PM (MonSportsNet/980 AM) [2/21/25]

YOUR Washington Bullets are 9-45!

The All-Star Break has come and gone. So has the Trade Deadline. The final stretch of this regular season is upon us.

We'll be seeing new veteran acquisitions Khris Middleton and Marcus Smart suit up as soon as for this matchup with the Bucks. The storyline writes itself. It'll be the first meeting between the franchises since the trade that sent 13-year veteran Middleton to DC for Kyle Kuzma.

Wizards really need a PF. Gil is literally the only 4 on the roster.

They should bring over that French National player they just got the rights to. Now would be a good time to see what he's got.

https://www.spotrac.com/news/_/id/2632/bucks-acquire-kyle-kuzma-for-khris-middleton-in-four-team-trade-involving-wizards-knicks-and-spurs

Mathias LESSORT

Teammate of Bilal's in the Olympics.

He's 29, but he's a 6-9 240 PF. That's what they could use right now...

Spotrac got it wrong. Bucks have his rights.

https://basketnews.com/news-219208-mathias-lessorts-nba-rights-traded-to-milwaukee.html#

Ironic you'd post that in the Bucks game thread. :D Maybe we should bring him over for this game to dunk on his national teammate Sarr. Would help your tank.

In all seriousness, we can't bring him over now. He's got a broken leg, hasn't finished his season, & signed an extension. But I hear that can/will be broken, so maybe we can bring him to dunk on Sarr next season. I was a big fan in the Olympics.

Kuz update: he's killing it on d. Absolutely swarming dudes on the perimeter. Helping on the boards. Still got to shed some of those bad offensive habits from playing on a tanking team. But overall he's been positive.

Ha! Those are the same ‘bad habits’ he’s had since he got in the league. Kuz’ greatest superpower is irrational confidence. He thinks he’s better than he is. And his inconsistency means at times he gets hot even after a string of misses. So he will always put up the shot. If you look at box scores over his career: The worse a night he’s having the more shots he puts up. Sometimes that means he gets hot late in a game that he shot you out of in the first half. So he looks clutch due to timing.

You can check his record. He’s been a +/- negative on every team he’s played for. There’s a reason we didn’t win relying on Kuz, Beal, and Porzingis. And a reason we cratered with Kuz as team captain. The most inconsistent player in the league. He will give you 40. And then lose you a string of games once you start to trust him.

That said when he’s motivated he will play defense and rebound. And he’s a willing passer, even if he is also willing to pass to the other team.

Happy you’re happy. The Wiz are energized to have been able to set him free. AJJ looks like a good kid. Raw and talented like all the rest of the team.

Hmm. Did the NBA get it wrong?

https://www.nba.com/wizards/news/wizards-acquire-middleton-johnson-from-milwaukee-bucks

As part of a four-team deal, the Wizards also acquired the draft rights to Mathias Lessort from the New York Knicks and dealt Patrick Baldwin Jr. to San Antonio.

I think I’d trust the nba over the eurobasket site that thinks Delon Wright is a center. But idk.

Nice surprise, I hope we kick the tires on him next-year. While we're at it, if Nolan Traore falls into the 20's, we can draft him and run an entire French speaking squad.

Kuz has had 2 seasons where he had a positive on/off - 18-'19 w/ the Lakers & '22-23 w/ you. The Championship yr he was basically even. This is not ideal, but it's far from every yr teams have been worse w/ him. And I think it's more well-established the Wiz were a losing franchise, than Kuz a losing player.

It seems like things are starting to turn around for you guys w/ the young stable, & trades like this. You got way better value than you should. While simultaneously I proposed Kuz reclamation project deals before this, just not for a better player in Middleton, w/ somehow AJ Johnson & a pick swap attached. That was crazy.

Vis a vis Lessort, a myriad of outlets, including Yahoo, reported his rights went to the Bucks. In fact, if you Google "Mathias Lessort rights", all the top results have him going to the Bucks. It was framed as trading the rights to Hugo Besson to the rights for Lessort. It makes more sense for the Bucks cuz he's 30. But ostensibly a team page would be more accurate, unless he was redirected later. There were add-ons to the trade, like Sims for Wright, a day after.
