It depends whether or not they are intentionally leaving a hole at center to tank.

Also, if they do decide to fill that gap, they will probably be looking at a one-year signing. The quality free agents will want longer deals. We may just resign Richaun Holmes to a one year deal and maintain continuity.

You have to put it into the context of the rapidly expanding cap room thanks to the new TV deal.

The tax threshold this past season was about $171M.
This season, it will be: $188M
Next season, it will be: $207M
In 2027-28, when we have to resign our first young player, Bilal, it will be: $227M

That's an increase in $56M in just 4 years.

Or to look at it another way: right now, Kispert's contract of $13.97M is 9% of the cap. But because it stays relatively flat while the salary cap rises, by Year 4, it will only be 6.6% of the cap. So by then, although the contract will cost $13.1M, it will feel like a $10.4M contract.

We should be able to leverage this phenomenon a great deal as we resign our rookies. Signing them to declining Deni-style contracts in the face of massively increasing cap figures will allow us to "overpay" them early but get their salary down really cheap at a time when we are trying to resign the rest of our guys.
