Trae Young, Come on DOWN

Post#1 » by badinage » Thu Jan 8, 2026 2:37 am

It’s done.

No draft picks coming back.

But — intriguing. Very intriguing.

Pretty much exactly what I said. Straight swap with zero picks. Expecting a board meltdown but it's whatever...

If nothing else this will be interesting. Trae actually wants to be here which is only positive I can think of.

People thinking we were going to get the Pelican pick were never living in reality

I mean, it is good that they didn't give up a pick.. but what the hell.... why even do it... if trae it does, well, we torpedo our future come. And if he plays like s*** and what was the point of trading for him.

I will reserve judgment until I see more how this turns out. Possible he actually helps our development by being a great assist guy. Maybe that's cope. But at least we have an actual PG now, whatever you think of him.

Tank commander. CJ was leading us to too many wins.

Garbage trade. If they aren't willing to give us some draft comp then let them keep Trae.

I am hoping this is part of a 3 team deal and the other part is still in the works.

Shut him down for this year and rehab his value next Fall
Making extreme statements like "only" sounds like there are "no" Jokics in this draft? Jokic is an engine that was drafted in the 2nd round. Always a chance to see diamond dropped by sloppy burgular after a theft.

They were trying to dump him… and didn’t have to give up any picks. I really don’t get it unless the front office thought CJ was going to help us win too many games. In that case, just shut him down

It’s a really dumb move and I don’t understand it. Why not just pursue Trae Young in the off-season?

The only way it makes sense is if Trae has already agreed to sit out 30 or so games this season due to a phantom injury. I cannot believe the Wizards will be dumb enough to squander their high lotto pick in this draft.

Are we sure no draft picks were involved?

IMO it’s Schlenk as he drafted Trae in ATL - traded Luca to do it. These trades are red flags…

Because he **** blows and we need to lose basketball games.

I wish we could have gotten a late pick but we replaced 2 neutral players for one negative player when we need to lose games.

There's got to be a three-way to follow. Otherwise people need to be fired.

I don't see the issue. We got him for free. If he's as bad as you say he is, then the tank is intact and we just kicked the tires on a former allstar and one of the best assist guys in the league. If he plays well, we just sit him towards the end of the year? I don't think this FO forgot about our pick protection.

Trae setting up Sarr Bilal and Johnson sounds kind of intriguing.

If he sucks so bad, then why acquire him and be stuck with his $49M contract? Why not just buy out CJ and tank while developing Bub and Trey Johnson?
