I don't think the acquisition of Kessler is likely. I think Utah will match any reasonable offer. It would have to be a dramatic overpay to get him - like $35M a year or something. And though I like Kessler, I don't like him at that price.

It’d depend on the years I guess, but any offer that would be good for us would be matchable for Utah. Our team needs and positions align too closely with Utah’s to see this working

As I mentioned in the trade thread, I'd love to try and obtain Sorber from OKC. My opening offer would be the 2029 Portland pick. I'd throw in SRP's if they want them, but OKC is already so loaded with players it's hard for them to use the picks.

Another thought would be to trade Champagnie for Sorber. That would have to be very intriguing for OKC to acquire a gifted rebounding forward with a cap impact of a vet minimum salary. It might make sense for us if we landed a forward in the draft like Boozer, Wilson or Dybantsa and we were facing a log jam at the position. But I'd be really hesitant to part with Champagnie. That dude is awesome!

There is a scramble to find good Center depth, I doubt Utah lets Kessler go. I am hoping for rumors of us going after Peyton instead this summer.

I like Kessler but guys like him can be had cheaper. There will be a bunch of senior bigs in next year's draft who could play the same role fairly well.

I posted in the trade thread but I didn't see this one it probably fits here better...

I know everyone is talking about Peyton Watson, but I just want to throw my hat in on that idea. I would absolutely make him the priority of this offseason. It is a golden opportunity to get an ascending young player who is an ideal fit on this team with the way he plays. 4 yr/120 ?

Add Watson to our top pick (Peterson, Dybantsa, Boozer, Wilson, Flemings, Brown Jr). Resign Bagley. Draft another big man with the 30th pick (Joshua Jefferson, Veesaar, Badunga, Morez Johnson, Ngongba, Zuby Ejiofor, JT Toppin, Tomislav Ivisic).

Potential Roster...

Sarr
Kyshawn
Watson
Peterson/Dybantsa
Young

Bagley
30th pick
Gil
Whitmore
Champagnie
Watkins
Coulibaly
Riley
Tre Johnson
Bub

I kinda like the other Utah center - Nurkic. Probably can be had pretty cheap. Similar-ish to Valanciunis when he was here. Just big and immovable. He's averaging 10 boards and 5 assists this year. Maybe a nice change of pace from Sarr at C. Not good defensively though so he wouldn't be able to play much with Trae Young. Maybe still draft a young center as the third big.

I'd still throw a big offer at Kessler, just to make the Jazz match it.

And I wouldn't be mad at all with bringing Bags back if we don't go with Nurkic or some other backup C. Bags has been good.
Can't say I do. Who else gonna shoot? Urinal cakes!

 +1 this post. Getting Peyton makes Bilal expendable. We would effectively get two Top-7 picks this summer if we can pinch him.

I hope we shock by signing him, and making Denver let him walk, we have nothing to lose by trying.

I love it! Tre as 6th man sniper off the bench. This team is high octane, can run and gun, score, defend, and has the athleticism to hang with anyone and really push the pace. We pull this off the rest of the league is taking notice.

Personally, I'd just as soon get Richaun Holmes back from the Greek league as throw $$ at Nurkic -- Holmes was quite good last year.

OTOH, it would be criminal not to come away from next June's draft with a promising C prospect. There sure seem to be a bunch of them!

Hmm, dunno about Tre coming off the bench, he's gonna be a Ray Allen-type...although this is a problem I would love to have.

Wow... hard to know how to respond to this, given that Kessler has a career FG% of over 68% to go with almost 4 blocked shots & almost 5 offensive boards per 40 minutes.

He's one of the very best Centers in the league.

True. They would have options! Say they draft Wilson or Boozer, you could bring Kyshawn off the bench as Swiss army knife 6th man.

The issue with Trae is that a Trae/Tre backcourt is a disaster defensively. Hence, the need to start Bilal (or Watson if successfully signed as an RFA) next to him. Tre can then play as a 6th man off the bench.

Of course, if we draft Peterson, a Trae/Peterson backcourt should work as the latter is a good defender.

I think we might be a bit premature on this narrative that Tre Johnson is a terrible defender. He wasn't good in college, and perhaps not so good in his first 10 games or so, but his defense has looked quite a bit better lately. It's worth nothing that Tre has the best on/off differential among our starters, and the second-best on the team behind Bagley. He is doing something right out there, and given that his offensive numbers are merely so-so, It could be that his defense has been pretty effective.

I'd appreciate an update on our salary floor situation
going into next year. Are we in danger of not reaching
the floor and being penalized for it?

Will signing one free agent get us there? I don't
remember how dire that issue is going forward.

Trae Young’s option gets us mostly there. So, not dire. Without his option we’d be like $70 million short of the cap. When we need to be within $16m of the cap. If I’m reading it right.
