Wizards Rebrand Ideas

Post#1 » by FAH1223 » Mon Jun 15, 2026 5:22 am

The last rebrand that was done was in 2011. Right before the 66-game lockout shortened season. That was John Wall’s 2nd season in the NBA.

Ted Leonsis’ 2nd season as the majority owner.

There’s been some nice alternatives since. I think the chief among them was the “Stars and Stripes” during the 2016-17 season which was a 49-win campaign and a game short of the Eastern Conference Finals.

“The District of Columbia” ones were also decent. The whites used in 2017-18 and in the playoffs were tough. The blue ones have been in rotation since.

I’ve seen the younger fans, those born after 2002, longing for a return of the 1997-2011 branding. I guess they liked the “Wizards 25” season that brought the white versions of those back.

Those of us who were born before 1997 know that the fanbase disliked those uniforms in 2010 and longed to a design which had echoes of the last time the franchise was relevant.

Ted obliged and basically brought back a rendition of the Washington Bullets uniforms but with navy blue.

I’ve seen some decent mockups. But I’d rather see a simplistic design. Something like this.

Read on Twitter

I talked to Will Dawkins last year at an event a friend of mine invited me to. Will was super cool. One thing he said was that a rebrand was coming.

Reading the tea leaves, it’ll probably come when the Capitol One Arena renovations are done for the 2027-28 season.

So with that, what kind of rebranding do you want to see?

No ideas, but the teal and gold was always awful.

Go back to Arenas/Jamison era. Embrace the Wizards branding. Stay away from boring red white and blue combinations

They've been moving away from Wizards branding. Just rename the team to "The District". That's it. Wizards is associated with failure and mediocrity.

I agree with almost anything that gets away from the Wizards branding.

Black and gold and white. That’s the look.

The unis last season were a gesture in this direction — but the stripes were Grunfeldian, Sheppardian: an attempt to have it both ways, to be bold and new and yet link to the past.

And the past … the past ain’t anything to link to.

I love the Bullets unis of old — the late 70s unis. I love the color of that blue. What came after was barely trying — not unlike the team. Those white jerseys with the small Bullets lettering and the red ones with the same — verveless; they had no energy, no life.

Washington Justice. Hammer/gavel as the logo. Or scales & sword. Black uniforms. Black white and grey. Alternate jerseys would look like cash money. Green white grey with detailing like a $100 bill.

Districtmentality. Better than if I got my way. Then you’d be Judgementality or something of the sort.

I'm fine with the current uniforms.

I just want the Bullets name back....which will never happen.

President Donald Trump referred to African countries, Haiti and El Salvador as "shithole" nations during a meeting Thursday and asked why the U.S. can't have more immigrants from Norway.

Is there any chance a “rebrand” would include a new name?

My understanding is that someone else holds the trademark for "The District" -- which is why every Wizards' "The District" jersey has "of Columbia" in teeny, tiny letters below.

Of course, if Monumental really wanted it, I'm sure they could acquire or license the trademark for the right price.
Always remember, my friend: the world will change again. And you may have to come back through everywhere you've been.

Get it done. The Wizards name holds only slightly less embarrassment than Bobcats.

Return to Washington Wizards
