2026 Draft Day Thread

Post#1 » by nate33 » Tue Jun 23, 2026 4:37 am

As discussed a few days ago, this is the official Draft Day thread. Let’s try to keep the discussion in this thread about the overall draft and not so much about the specific needs of the Wizards. All the AJ versus DP talk can stay in the Wizards pre draft thread.

I think it's going to be Dybantsa and I think they're going to trade Champagnie, Whitmore, and a future pick for another first round pick. Whether or not it's a future first or second rounder from us depends on the pick we're getting back. Target for us is another big and AD insurance.
Can't say I do. Who else gonna shoot? Urinal cakes!

Agreed. I also think there’s a good chance they trade AD instead of moving forward with the Champagnie deal.

Would be absolutely shocked if they pass on Dybantsa.

I was just thinking about our depth chart and it blows my mind that JC is basically the only half decent PF option behind AD.And if we trade AD, or when he’s inevitably injured, that looks like a great way to tank a season.

Based on the Trae contract, it looks like these older vets now may have more value, across the board. Might AD rehab his image and build value before the trade deadline? Sure. But he might also get injured and tank any remaining trade value he has.

I’d try to trade AD and whatever draft pieces during the draft, for a young, healthy, PF. I’m specifically thinking Morez Johnson. I honestly wouldn’t mind also trading
A wing and a 2nd or 2, to grab Quaintence if he’s there in the 20’s.

I do agree that if we take AJ, we are about to have a glut of wings. I don’t know who I’d trade though. Not Tre, or George. And I would hate just to get back something in the 20’s for Bilal.

Regardless, I’d also try to sign Bailey back to the team.

And I can’t wait to see where Yaxel goes.

My confidence in the FO is a bit shaken after the Young overpay. I'll be curious to see if we can make any trades, and what will happen tomorrow night with our picks, at-least we can stop stock-piling wings and guards now.

There’s a lot of interest in Morez Johnson from several teams, and there’s even some buzz about him potentially going in the top 10.

I’m starting to think that a package centered around AD or Champagnie plus future picks may not be enough to get it done.

Between the injury concerns and looking back at the list of players drafted over the last 10 years who were already 23 or older, I’m staying away from Yaxel. Ejifor would be interesting.

This. That overpay yesterday took a lot of air out of the sails. I still can’t believe it. Makes my head hurt.

Would anyone consider trading Kyshawn George for a pick high enough for Morez?

I hate giving up Kyshawn, but it balances the roster nicely.

George is too good and Johnson hasn't proven anything. He was good in college but you don't trade a sure thing for a lottery ticket.

Rival executives continue to speculate that the Washington Wizards will take AJ Dybantsa. And if they do surprise the league, it will be with Darryn Peterson, though sources say Washington has remained very tight-lipped during the process.

Yeah we don't have to trade for another 1st. If we do it i wouldnt want to give up one of our recent 1st round draft picks other than Bub. We aren't going to be contending over the next two years so we can be patient and wait to see how things shake out before deciding who we want to keep.

Love Morez, wouldn't call him a lottery ticket, but all the same I'm with prime on this.

OTOH, here's an idea that I know won't be popular. I'm not trying to stir up controversy, but I would trade Tre for Morez. Especially if we're planning to pick DP tonight but even if we take AJ.

My thinking is that to reach his peak in the league, Tre has to be very high usage. W/ AJ especially, but also DP, we get another very high usage type.

Please note: this is not a knock on Tre. & it might not even be such a great idea. But, it makes sense in the ways I describe. Especially since I think there's a strong possibility that we'd want AJ at the 2.

Am I wrong?

How will you guys watch the draft tonight? I’ll be at home in a comfortable chair with a nice drink in my hand.

Kyshawn George is worth more than a pick outside of the top 8 in my opinion. I also think Kyshawn's stock will rise this year even further. The play here is to obtain the 11th pick from GSW along with Butler for AD. If we need to sweeten it with a second rounder or two, let's do it.

No. IMO he’s the perfect long term complement to whoever we take at 1.

I’d trade any of JC, Bilal, Bub and possibly even Riley before I’d do Kyshawn.

I would think something like JC, Hardy, 51 could get us a pick in the 20-25 range. I’m good with that. I’d be interested in Steinbach, Quaintance, Graves, Peat, Lopez, Cenac, Reed, Zuby, Jefferson are all potentials there after Morez.
