That 14 ppg was from 2024-25 over only 13 games. Last year he put up 5.5 ppg with 36% from 3. Charlotte was more competitive last year; he must have gotten crowded out a bit.

Still: I like the trade. Dawk probably knows him from his time at OKC.

I kind of liked him coming out of college, but it doesn’t look like he’s been very good as a pro. Will Tre even crack our rotation? Or was this move really just to nab a 2nd for two players we didn’t really want?

I'm okay with the deal, but I can't really see any reason to be optimistic about Mann. He's 25 years old, shoots 34% from 3, gets no assists... Bub is certainly more valuable.

We got a worse player, being paid more money, for a pick in the mid 50's (Philly 2nd).
Mann doesnt pass, defend, or rebound... He's a mediocre shooter than CANNOT draw a foul and will eat up possessions from young guys who need it.

It seems like a decent move. I like Cam's upside more than Tre, but there just wasn't room for Cam in the rotation. Tre managed to impress Charlotte enough in his first 2 seasons there to convince them to sign him to an $8M a year contract. You don't give that kind of money away to a terrible player, so that bodes pretty well.

Tre promptly hurt his back after that and did not appear to be the same player in the following year as he recovered. If he is back to full health, he looks like a legit rotation player at a position of need. But if he never really gets much better than what we saw last year, then he is nearly unplayable. I hope they have done their homework on his current health level.

Shams is reporting that we got a 2027 SRP from the Clippers. If that's the actual Clippers' pick and not from some other team, then this is a worthwhile move based on the pick alone. The Clippers will be terrible this year and that pick will fall in the 31-36 range.

Of the teams involved, it looks like Golden State, Phoenix, Miami and Indiana will all be roughly 40-45 win teams fighting for a play-in bid. If we end up with the second-best pick among those teams, the pick will probably be like #42 or so.

The new anti tanking rules have the second round in reverse order from the first round. It's moot because it's not a pure or straight pick from the Clippers anyway. As for Mann, better positional balance and a little bigger contract for salary matching if he's used as filler and an expiring contract at the trade deadline.

We got Cam for 2 R2 picks.

Now, Tre Mann is terrible. No good. Bad.

But he's no worse than Cam Whitmore. & we got 1 R2 pick back -- i.e. a chance to get lucky.

In short, even if we get nothing out of Tre -- just waive him -- the Cam experiment only cost us 1 R2 pick net. Worth it. If, otoh, someone gives us a R2 pick for Mann at some point (possible... not likely), then the Cam experiment cost us nothing at all....

Hmmm. That actually might work out better for us. Let's assume two or three among Golden State, Miami, Phoenix and Indiana find themselves in the lottery drawing (because they missed being a top 6 playoff seed and also failed to secure the 7th seed in the play-in tournament). Presumably, those 3 lottery participants will have relatively low odds in the first round lottery because play-in participants have lower odds than teams that miss the play-in altogether. That means they are likely to finish rather low in the first round lottery, likely ending up with a pick in the 12-16 range. And since the second round order for picks 31-46 are the inverse order of picks 1-16, that puts them near the top of the second round, picking in the 31-35 range. That's pretty good!

I’m more concerned about what this could mean for Bub! Bub as a PG was a failed experiment. Bub is a SG or combo at best.
When Tre was at OKC, was he played as a PG or SG or some combo-guard? I think we straight up need a true PG, and I ask because I wonder if Dawkins sees PG in Tre. If Tre is here as a combo guard, then our SG spot may have too many players competing for time.
