And ESPN says it's worth $124 million, but it's still a lot.

Then Tarik must have gotten his numbers confused then. It's the richest deal in NHL history.

Sweet. If the Caps can keep all their talented youngsters, this team might actually be a force for years to come.

NHL money is guaranteed and he negotiated this contract by himself. He's brilliant.

At least it's replacing Juwan Howard's as the highest total dollar contract in the history of DC sports.

I'm glad the Caps are able to keep him. No one in hockey is worth that much money, but out of all the players in the league, Ovechkin & Sidney Crosby should be able to basically write their own checks.

Had the Caps lost him in FA or had to trade him, it would have been the final nail in the coffin for hockey in DC.

have the caps sold out a game in the last 10 years? have they ever been better than one of the worst 3-4 teams while Ovechkin has been here? it pisses me off that he gets so much money and the team isn't even a blip in washington. i hope they move the franchise eventually.

are you a disgruntled Caps fan, or do you hate them so much you want to see them out the door?

Ovechkin gets what the market will bear and because he's the 2nd or 3rd best player in the league and an RFA after the season. Even though hockey is "at best the 4th major sport", they still take in over $2 BILLION a year as a league. That's still a lot of moolah.
