How did Kwame Brown ever get 36 points in one game?

He can't finish at the rim. He can't shoot free throws. He doesn't have an outside shot. How did this happen? What center was he up against?

It's always been mental with Kwame. Kid has the physical skills (though the size of that a$$ on him has to be slowing him down recently).
But he came into the league mentally fragile, got smashed under MJ's ruthless tutelage, and never recovered any confidence in himself. Instead, he retreated to a "It's not me; it's them" view of the world where he's the permanent victim.
He's just a shadow of the player he could've been. So many lessons in there for teams drafting HS kids.

Kwame has seemingly gotten worse offensively the longer he's been in the league. He actually had a passable fifteen foot jumper and a few decent moves in the post when he first came out. By the time we sent him packing, those had been utterly destroyed by many years of constantly shattered and reshattered confidence.
His high-scoring game was just one of those nights where everything came together. And since it occurred prior to the total extraction of anything resembling an offensive game, it meant that he was able to total 30 points, rather than the 15 or so he'd get with a similar moon-sun-stars-alignment nowadays.
If I remember correctly, he also had his career rebounding night that same game (though maybe he's topped it since leaving). I bet it'd be funny to show that game footage now; most Lakers fans (and probably some Wizards fans) wouldn't be able to believe it.

Was Kwame shattered by MJ's evilness or did Kwame simply suck from day one? If PJ can't turn him around I'm kind of inclined to assume the latter.

He would have been a solid player if he learnt how to catch. I never saw the drive in him to succeed.
In other words. Worst player.

Kwame should be called the "Wizard of Oz." He's the lion, tin man, and scarecrow all in one.

The thing about Kwame is that he's very quick and actually has very nice post moves and feet to get himself into position to score. But he has the worst hands in probably the history of the NBA and blows simple shots.
