The question itself isnt that outlandish.

However, a better version would be WHEN will he get back all or 95% of his athleticism. That is the $1 million question with microfracture surgery.

What makes it essentially impossible to predict is that every microfracture surgery is different, depending upon the severity (size of defect/# of holes "drilled" into the bone) and location within the knee that it occurs.

Gilbert is on the less to much less severe side of the pendulum in that his microfracture is in a non-weight bearing portion of his knee, and his defect wasnt that large. That makes a BIG difference. Again, how quickly he comes back to what he was or damn close to it is the unknown at this point.

I doubt it, two major knee injuries has to take a toll.
Help us, Obi-wan Leonsis. You're our only hope.

Jason Kidd is the best comparison to the type of microfracture procedure Gil had.

I don't expect him to be 100%. He probably won't be 100% until next season. What I hope is that he can come back and contribute w/o causing any more damage to his knee. I would guess 85% to 90% would be ideal but I may be a bit optimistic.

Part of me wants to see Gilbert wait until he's 100%, which would mean he's out for the rest of the year. However the success of the team thus far without him makes me hope he can come back in time so we can make a potentially long playoff run. I'm really at odds over this.

Sorry Fisher. DAT is playing the role of me on this one. Way to go DAT.

Jason Kidd. The sec I read that, the image of Kidd pulling GA a side after the game and having a nice talk with him comes to mind. Not sure if it was something printed or speculation that Kidd was telling him, cool your mins, these things take time.

Anyway, GA said mid Feb to what... mid March ? Shouldn't we take him at his word? It's hard to see how he could possible be 100%. 90% seems reasonable as a goal. Maybe a little less. 85-90% I can't see them letting him play if he isn't at least there.

If I had to guess, its got to be closer to the Mid March ETA.

Kidd told him to go get a second opinion because he didnt look like the Gil of old. Well, Gil was holding back because he was scared..after the seond opinion they said everything was fine so he went all out and that's when he got hurt.

If Kidd didnt tell him to go get that opinion, he may have still played scared for a little while and never re-injured it. (haha okay that was a reach, but im just saying).
