Still some time, but the starters were already announced and the reserves will be announce tomorrow. I think we all agree Caron is a lock, and it looks like Jamison will make it too.

Who do you guys think the reserves will be? Who will get snubbed and who will be a surprise?

I think Jose Calderon deserves a spot, but Hedo doesn't.[/quote]

The format for reserves is 2 guards, 2 forwards, 1 center, and 2 wildcards right?

Guards - Billups/Calderon
Forwards - Butler/Pierce
Center - Bosh
Wildcards - Jamison/Z
Bickerstaff: who's up for kickball?!!
Ed Wood: Only if it's the no-pants variety.

I would replace Z with Hamilton, since Bosh would be the C.

I hope Butler and Jamison make the team. I'm going down to New Orleans for the event (my first all-star game) so it would be nice if a couple of the Wizards made the team.

I was on the fence about Calderon making it but no other guards are really having a stand out year.

As far as we go, Caron is a lock, and honestly, looking over everything, I'd be surprised if Jamison doesn't get in as well. There just aren't a lot of obvious candidates from playoff-caliber teams (a key criteria for coaches in their voting) to take over him.

My preferences for other reserves:

East
G: Billups, Calderon
F: Pierce, Butler
C: Bosh
W: Jamison, Josh Smith

West
G: Paul, Nash
F: Boozer, Nowitzki
C: Stoudemire
W: Ginobili, Roy

In reality, I don't expect Calderon to make it (probably Hamilton or even Allen will get the vote) and I figure Baron will join the west squad (I don't like him at all, but he probably takes Roy's spot). The west backup center could also be Camby or Chandler, makes little difference to me. I'll also say that Josh Smith is a bit of a darkhorse on my team, but I like him more than Turkoglu or Joe Johnson.

It's a crime if Jamison doesn't make it, but I could see other coaches being like "Well, Caron's in there so let's pick a guy from another team."

I have this unsettling feeling Hedo Turkoglu, despite clearly inferior stats and team importance, getting the nod over Jamison. The guy hits a few game winners, one being on ABC, and his team is one of the East's best, and coaches will eat that up.

Caron, however, is a lock.

Hedo won't make it. He's good, but he's not an all star. Jamison is one of only 2 players in the East getting 20/10 for cryin' out loud.

I don't like how players who are near or over 30 years old can be selected into the Rook/Soph game just because it's their first year. I think there needs to be an age limit. Seeing JCN and Scola in New Orleans just gives me a bad taste in my mouth.

Well, they are rookies.

Mike Conley who hasn't played a whole lot making it over Nick Young makes no sense.

Reports from Atlanta are that Joe Johnson was informed that he is an All-Star.

Not sure if this hurts Antawn's chances since he's a forward and JJ's a guard.

Wow, why would they pick JJ? He is shooting a low percentage and plays on a losing team.

Outside Billups, there really aren't any clear choices for the mandatory second guard spot. Calderon, Hamilton, Johnson, Carter, Allen - they'll probably all get votes from someone. If Johnson is on the team, my guess is that he just happened to edge out everyone else as the second backup guard. Could be wrong of course.

From Ivan Carter:

No official word on the all-star announcement yet but put it this way: don't be surprised if Butler and Jamison are on the team.
Bickerstaff: who's up for kickball?!!
Ed Wood: Only if it's the no-pants variety.
