Hypothetical POTG against Lakers

Post#1 » by miller31time » Mon Mar 31, 2008 4:37 am

I know we lost, but there were too many great performances to not give credit where credit is due. This won't be counted in the final season tally of POTG honors, but I'm curious as to who this board thinks played the best and had the most overall impact.

Who had the best night in our game versus the Lakers?

Caron Butler

17pts (6-17fg) / 12rebs / 12asts / 2stls / 1blk

Nick Young

27pts (10-16fg) / 2rebs / 1ast / 1blk

DeShawn Stevenson

27pts (9-15 / 8-12 3pt) / 3rebs / 2asts

Give it to all three. To give it to just one is insulting. We need a "Jackarse of the Game" thread to bash the worst player on the night. I really really really need to vent right now.

I'd give it to DeShawn because his threes were the only reason we were even contending in the fourth.

Even though Young and Butler were big in the 4th/OT, you kind of have to say that Deshawn's three pointers were the main thing keeping us in the game early on. I mean, 8 3s in the first three quarters? Ridiculas.

Aside from the sick 3 to send it to OT Caron had a very quiet Kidd-esqe trip dub.

Going into the 4th, DS2 was the surefire POTG, but after Nick went nuts thereafter he gets my vote. That performance against his idol will only do wonders for his confidence moving forward, so I

Hey millertime, why don't you make the thread for tomorrow? Me and DallasShalDune got us big time wins. Let's see what you got. But hey, I understand if you just don't have the cajones for it.

That's not fair. You had time to make your gamethreads (though it didn't exactly show). It's 1am here and I have school tomorrow....er, today.

Not happening. In fact, hitting the sack right now.

I would have given my vote to Deshawn primarily because he almost single handedly got us back into the game in the third and did a good job going up against Kobe.

Stevenson, he carried the team back into the game. Also his defense on Kobe was amazing. Basically everything Hermitkid already said.

Stevenson was POTG without a doubt.

Eddie went to the Nick Young well once too often and it bit us in the @ss.

I couldn't watch the game, but I'm going to give it to Young. A career high in points. and look at this.

Nick
27 points in 31 minutes

Kobe
26 points in 46 minutes

that's pretty impressive.

I think Caron probably deserved it more cuz of the trip dub, but i rarely get to give it to Young, so to him it goes.

1. Young
2. Caron
3. Deshawn

Another great team game but if I had to choice it would be NY since I give it to the player shows they have expanded their game.

CB getting a triple double isn't a shock and DS can nail 3s, he just nailed a bump. Both had great game but NY really grow last night and I'm glad he had a chance to win the game. He will learn from that experience and it will only make us better down the road.

I really think we are going to make some noise once we get GA back to run with the 2nd unit. I actually hope he plays today. We need it on the last of 4 games in 5 day out West. It will still be a great homecoming even if he plays tonight. We have to start the process of him getting the rust off so we can make this run and be ready for the playoffs.

Mna, I couldn't watch the game cus I got hammered on Saturday night and couldn't stay up last night.

I'd give it to my boy Noodles though.

I'm so pissed I didn't watch the game.

If there's any honor in defeat-- Nick, Caron, the coaches all share it. But certainly by all means: there can be no player more celebrated here than DeShawn.

On defense Kobe could no more get free of him than he could snip free of his own shadow.

And on offense he wasn't trying to miss much. Not a bit.

In my personal private record book and hall of honors I count this one as a win anyway. **** 'em. I'm keeping this one.

I was REALLY impressed with N1. He pulls up from stupid positions with stupid shots, but hey, he makes em'.

At the end of the game, we first gave the ball to Caron, he got fouled, then we gave the bal Nick. I know the kid is having the game of his life, but that's just too much pressure for a rookie to make a game-winning shot, especially a game winner in his home town.

One thing is for sure though, the guy doesn't struggle with confidence. N1 trusts his shot better than most people in the league.

Nick gets my 'hypothetical' POTG vote

I had the same thought while watching the game. I didn't like the ball in his hands inside of 1 minute in OT. He's still too young (pun intended) and makes too many dumb mistakes to trust him. Let Caron or Stevie create and find him - but don't ask him to do it all. He's not ready for that. Yet.

I won't give it to young because his defense kept the lakers in the game during overtime. he had a great offensive game and was just stroking it. But I am sorry he left fisher open 3 times in a row, when it was the same play all 3 times, he hit two of those shots.
