OT: Avery Johnson & D'Antoni are goners

Another "top" coach gets fired in the West. How does this happen, considering these resepctive coaches have led their teams to 50+ win seasons? Is it fair to judge a coach on his playoff record? Or is this becoming a new trend in the NBA?
Makes you wonder about some of the coaches in the East who still have their jobs...

D'Antoni was a b.s. suspension away from most likely winning the finals last year. He's being fired because he was force fed a roster (shaq) that did not match his style of play. Keep in mind he led the Suns to best record in the West before the Shaq trade. I'd take D'Antoni in the awful Eastern conference over Eddie any day.

There's quite a bit of confusion about who came up with the idea to trade for Shaq. D'Antoni has said he was completely in support of it and some Phoenix media think it was his idea.
Satan is happy with your progress.

that's what i heard on the radio. apparently, d'antoni wanted shawn marion gone pretty badly and was the one who pushed for the shaq trade.

I have heard it go both ways. It would not surprise me if he wanted Marion gone because he was a terrible locker room guy. I also have heard that D'Antoni left Shaq in during times of the Spurs series (hack-a-shaq) to prove a point that the roster Kerr assembled did not work.

Avery Johnson's actions made his firing happen. When your GM acquires Jason Kidd, and you don't use him in the way that makes him effective... I can't begin to understand what Johnson was thinking. His GM didn't get him for Avery to mold him into his system and take away his creativity. And that's a perfect way to lose his players' respect.

I don't think blaming Johnson is the right way to think about it.
Simply, Harris fit the system. Kidd did not. Had Kidd have gotten more time, it may have worked. Overall, it was a bonehead move on Cuban's part to acquire him so late just because the Suns and Lakers were making moves. If only owners could be fired too.
Another teams loss could be potentially our big gain. Deep down inside, I'm hoping we tank this last game tonight so EJ gets the boot. I'd take either Johnson or D'Antoni anyday.

**** pathetic and you probably consider yourself a true fan.
But, at least you're honest about it. I gotta respect. A lot more than a can say about more than a few around here.

Yep, born and raised in northern VA and still passionately follow the Wiz even though I haven't lived there for years. So yeah, I still consider myself a true fan.
Let's face it, this team isn't very good and even if we pull a miracle comeback to dethrone King James, we're not going to get much further than that. A series win here may only serve as evidence to the Wiz organization to bring EJ back for a few more years, something I think should be sacrificed in this series if we can get a better coach in DC.
Time to start over (again) boys.
(my cynicism should be a clear indication of my Bullets Fever)

If Gil stays then D'Antoni may not be the best option.
I seem to remember Gil having a major beef with D'Antoni during the whole Olympic Team USA fiasco.
I might give The Little General a shot at coaching the Zards. He took a Dallas team that played zero defense and improved their defense dramatically 2 years ago.

Zardsfan:
I agree and have been saying this since the moment Avery was let go by Dallas
If you can fill the unforgiving minute
With sixty seconds’ worth of distance run,
Yours is the Earth and everything that’s in it,
And—which is more—you’ll be a Man, my son!
