Additional Draft Pick

Post#1 » by Wizardspride » Mon May 5, 2008 12:01 am

I was curious as to whether the 1st rd pick given
to us in the Juan Carlos Navarro trade will be in
the 2008 draft or is it still undetermined?

the draft pick received by the Wizards will be top 19 protected in 2008, meaning the Grizzlies would keep the pick if they finish with one of the top 19 picks. The pick is top 16 protected in 2009, top 14 protected from 2010 to 2012 and top 12 protected in 2013.

If the Wizards have not received the pick by 2013, they will receive a second-round pick and cash considerations.

You have to admit that it's hilarious how he wanted to go to the Grizzlies so much so that he could be with Pau, then when he gets there, Pau is traded for Kwame Brown to Los Angeles.

That, alone, might be worth it.

I think it was worth it. For one, we didn't need another guard, and he didn't want to be in DC anyway. If someone doesn't want to be in DC, good riddance. And now he's stuck with Kwame...and eventually maybe Derrick Rose

What????? man Ernie just gave him away for peanuts. I would have taken the offer from the Heat for James Posey over that.

I was also a proponent of the Posey trade. How nice would it have been to stick Posey on LeBron for stretches in the CLE series? Hell, the man shoots the 3 as well, and most importantly is clutch.

Excellent post. It was worth it! Had we known Navarro would come over for peanuts prior to the trade, we could have done something very different with the Nick Young pick. Such is life. Now Navarro gets to live off the bench on a crappy team. He has little chance to make the starting rotation and even less chance to make the playoffs. Good riddance!

Posey was never an option. The Wiz couldn't have paid him.

Right. Posey was talking about getting a full-MLE salary at the time. That would have put us well over the luxtax.

My understanding is Navarro inked only a 1 year deal for peanuts. I'm pretty sure he's a free agent now.

If I remember correctly, the talk was of packaging Etan Thomas and JCN for a newly S&T'd Posey.

Killing two birds with one stone, if you will.
