Would trading Butler Plus for Carmelo help us?

Or we he just add to the problems of too many scorers with no defense. At least he is less fragile than Butler and a much better scorer. I think he is a better player too

A Butler+Blatche+18th for Mello is feasible once Mello and Blatche's BYC status expire. However, I doubt Denver trades Mello without shedding Nene or Kmart. See the trade thread for my bloated proposal.

I wouldn't trade Butler for Melo straight up.

I think you are in the minority, my friend.

hmm... is an extra 5 points a game worth a difference in salaries of $5 mil?

Melo is clearly a more talented player. I just don't think he's the kind of guy who wins ball games. I definitely don't think he fits well on our roster whereas I think Butler is a great fit both on the floor and in the locker room.

Denver did win 50 games in the West this year. Put a healthy Anthony instead of Caron, and the Wiz would have had the 4th seed.

Much like a healthy Gilbert Arenas, Carmelo
is able to consistently dominate a game offensively.
I can't say the same for Caron Butler
In fact, with Carmelo I'm confident that the
Wiz would not have been blown out in Game 6.

I could go either way on this from a basketball standpoint. In one sense, Anthony is only 24 while Butler is 28. Anthony is certainly appears to be a better scorer while Butler brings toughness to a team that lacks it.
It's also hard to classify Anthony as a player who doesn't win because his team plays in the stacked Western conference. But it is hard to trade Butler who is supposed to be a cornerstone of the franchise.

I love Caron. I have no complaints about him, he is a great player, person, leader, teammate, everything. But if you can trade him for Carmelo, you have to do it IMO. It would be very tough, considering everything that caron brings to the table, but Melo is too talented to pass up.

You forget my friend, during the three playoff series he's been a Wizard, Caron has been either seriously banged up (which limited his effectiveness) or been out of action.
At some point you begin to wonder if he'll ever stay healthy enough to contribute not only throughout the regular season but the playoffs as well.
I agree that at this point Caron might be the better player and teammate but considering the age difference and injury concerns, this might not be a bad look for the Wizards. We'd have to hope that Carmelo would eventually mature to his full potential.
I wouldn't trade Blatche however to make it happen. I still have some hope that Blatche will continue to develop and grow into a nice player. He's still only 21.
I'd offer Caron & Antonio Daniels or Darius Songaila instead.

Gilbert+Melo+Jamison
Three extremely talented offensive players who can't play a lick of defense. If I could, I'd trade Gilbert for Melo but then it creates a logjam at forward for the Wizards with Jamison, Melo and Caron.

Yes!
Then flip Gil for Hinrich, Ty Thomas, and a pick or something like that.
Hinrich
NY1
Melo
Darrell Arthur (Chicago's pick)
Hibbert (our pick
That is a pretty sweet squad for the future.

One thing I noticed in this years playoff... Carmelo is a pretty selfish player. Maybe playing along side of AI brings this out. However, there is a sense of maturity that Butler has and Carmelo doesnt, at this stage of their career. So, I wouldnt make that trade unless we want to go back to major rebuilding mode. This team is close. We just need to play defense, have our head coach believe in a low post player, etc.

Great, so we go from 3 All-Stars to one with two rookies. Yeah - that's a GREAT plan.

Butler for Carmelo? That's a tough call. The points made about CB's health are good ones and there's no question that Melo is the superior all-around offensive player. In fact, Melo, imo, was the most consistent and most impressive offensive player on the national/pre-Olympic team that includes Kobe and LeBron.
Tough Juice is more of a leader and role model though, especially for youngsters like Nick and Blatche...and that counts for something. He's also a lot cheaper.
In either case, no way do I include Blatche and a first round pick, along with CB, in order to get Melo. He's not worth that much.

Anthony's the better player, but it doesn't change the dynamics of the team at all, so why bother? Upgrading Butler just isn't a need.

Butler is an excellent fit as a secondary scorer on this team.

I'd probably trade Caron for Anthony straight up. I definitely would not be willing to include anything else of value in addition to Caron though.
