Kudos to Joe Dumars Like EJ , Saunders had one-year remaining on his contract and Joe Dumars could have easily have maintained the status-quo and brought back Flip. Sorry, making it to the ECF wasn't good enough. Great GM, great organization.

Never been especially impressed with him. He's kind of like EJ - certainly not bad, certainly not good. I don't have any interest in bringing him on board.

I had no interest in bringing Flip to Washington, just pointing out that Flip got the Pistons to the ECF several times, yet he could not keep his job.

Flip to Chicago? I think he'd be a better fit than Collins. Maybe Flip can develop Beasley the same way he developed Garnett.

Joey D has shown quite a propensity to get rid of highly regarded coaches with good records. He's got a great organization, but I'm not sure I'd want to sign up to work for him.

Definitely an organization that doesn't accept mediocrity. Actually, doesn't even accept near excellence.

Like the move or not, it definitely highlights the difference between the few organizations really in it to win championships and everyone else.

Who wouldn't be a better fit than Doug Collins? Personally, I think Scott Skiles is better than both of them.

The Pistons didn't get better firing Larry Brown. It's really not surprising that Flip Saunders could not do well as his predecessor.

To be fair, Larry Brown was looking at other jobs while in the NBA Finals.... but he didn't want to walk away without his money so him and Joe agreed on a buyout, he most certainly was NOT fired.

True, probably the shame of his life. On-balance, Detroit has a pretty-good draft history of late and they know how to assemble talent given their draft position. They were smart enough to draft Tayshaun Prince over Ared Jeffries

Wade was considered a reach when Miami took him at 5th. Nobody should hold it against Detroit for not taking him 2nd.

Actually Jeffries was long gone by the time Detroit picked Pierce.

I think Dumars did well by signing McDyess, letting Wallace walk, quickly erasing the Mohammed mistake, developing Amir Johnson, and by drafting Stuckey/Maxiell. His only gaffe, albeit a huge one, was the Darko pick but even that could have turned out better under a different head coach.

He's kept the cap under control and I think he'll settle on a solid choice to replace Flip Saunders. A true exective of the year candidate year in and year out. I can't wait to see what he does with Rasheed's expiring deal.

I guess the Knicks did offer Brown a ludicrous amount of money ($50-60 mil). You're probably right that Larry Brown worked his way out of the Pistons' contract. Although in retrospect, Brown probably should have gotten a raise from the Pistons to keep them intact.
