The Spanish Escort is gone LOL...Didnt work out

Grizzlies' shooting guard Juan Carlos Navarro has decided to re-sign with FC Barcelona, ending his NBA career for now.
Navarro, who earned $538,000 with the Grizzlies last season, will earn between $20 million and $24 million over the next four years in Spain. Memphis will miss his outside shooting, but they also had a bit of a traffic jam at his position. They're still on the hook for a first-round draft pick they traded to the Wizards to acquire his rights, which is protected through the 19th pick this year. J-C-N is G-O-N-E.

It doesn't matter we'll still be 44-38.

This actually is pretty funny. They trade for the guy to pair him with his buddy Gasol, only to dump Gasol for peanuts and then have Navarro go back to Spain. That's what happens when an owner who only cares about saving money is driving the decisions.

Man, Ernie was such a moron to trade this guy. Now all he has to show for a guy who didn't want to play for the Wizards, cost the team a second round pick, and decided to run back to Spain after a single season is a future first round pick.

EG = Moron.

Well..this is funny. All the hype and hoopla about Navarro...all the threads and posts. Of course, I bought into it. Then we had thedrama from last Summer..etc....us getting a 1st round pick that we will probably never see...all for him ending back up at Spain for a much larger salary.

I guess in the end...everyone lost...except for Navarro. He got a raise and he proved to himself he could play in the NBA. Maybe thats all he wanted

Maybe now the pick Memphis owes us will have more value to them since they are basically losing it for nothing. Now would be a great time to offer them their pick back, along with Pecherov, for Kyle Lowry.

I stand by what I said last year, which was that we should've gotten more in that trade than a 2nd rounder in 2013, which is exactly what we're gonna get. No chance we ever sniff a first round pick in this deal.

We could have at least gotten Hakim Warrick or something.

Considering where we were with the luxury tax, I doubt we would've been able to acquire Warrick without packaging the rights to JCN with an existing Wizards' player. Given the Grizzlies' rebuilding strategy, the typical RealGM Wizards' tradebait (Daniels, Etan) would not have gotten it done; we would likely have needed to toss in a Pecherov...

Actually, this new development makes me glad Grunfeld got as much as he did.

With the team commited to Blatche and Stevenson, there was no way we were going to be able to sign Navarro and still avoid the tax. So GMEG went the trade route. But what probably drove JCN's value down was the prospect of this very thing happening - he tries the NBA for a year and if he doesn't like it he goes back to Spain. Unless a team was going to commit a large part of the MLE to him in a multi-year deal (unlikely, especially after seeing what happened with Sarunas) this was going to be a very real possibility.

Hey, I wish the protections weren't as strict but at least we got something. And maybe we can parlay that something into something else. Had we not traded JCN's rights when we did, he would have re-signed with his Spanish team last year and would have been left with a wasted second round pick. I don't have any regrets.

That's silly, since Memphis likely was the only reasonably possible destination for him, and he's shown to be no more than a marginal NBA talent.

This reminds me of the folks clinging to every ridiculous excuse they can think of for Sarunus J failing to make it in the NBA. It couldn't possible be that... they were just flat out wrong. What a crazy idea.

getting a chance at getting something good >>>> better than getting ****.

If someone offered you 200 lottery tickets for your old geo metro that you knew was going to break down in forever in a few months, would you take the lotto tickets?

Nick Young is a better player with more potential. What EG did was logical.

Well, now I understand why we got so little in the deal. Memphis rented the services of a first round quality backup pg for one year for the cost of a second round pick. We traded a present 2nd we weren't going to get anything from for a distant future second. Seems pretty even.

Good job EG getting a pick for that guy. Hopefully we can actually get the pick. And please stop with the Kyle Lowry stuff he is a role player.
