Official Summer League Thread

.

(All times local to Las Vegas).

Note that the schedule (and TV broadcasting schedule) is subject to change.

July 14 (5:00 p.m.) - vs Portland (Live on NBA TV)
July 16 (5:00 p.m.) - vs Philly (Live on NBA TV)
July 18 (5:00 p.m.) - vs Cleveland (Live on NBA TV)
July 19 (5:00 p.m.) - vs Houston (Live on NBA TV)
July 20 (3:00 p.m.) - vs Phoenix

All games at Cox Pavilion at UNLV.

I got no idea what's going on. But the initial schedule has the Wiz on NBA TV 4 of their 5 games. Nobody else is currently scheduled to be on NBA TV as much.

I'm hoping to be there in person to watch the games from the 16th thru the 20th, but this little pesky task of buying a house is complicating things.

PM me b/c I just got an email solicitation from the Luxor. Rooms $59/night Sun-Th; $99/night Fri/Sat. Also get $50 to offset transportation costs (gas or flight) to LV. Plus new players card sign-ups get $10 in free slot play.

Summer league tix were - if I remember correctly - $20/day for general admission.

Let's think about our summer league team for a second. With Blatche playing - I respect his decision to play when he doesn't have to - our squad will include:

N1
Dom
OPec
Blatche
McGee

Wouldn't you like to be running the point for that summer league team (just talking summer league competition here).

PG: YOU
2G: N1
SF: Dom
PF: Blatche
C: McGee/Opec

I'm confident I would have multiple turn overs, but I'm also confident I (or most anyone else) would have multiple assists.

I'm looking forward to summer league. I was upset about the pick but now i've gotten to the reaction phase where I'm hoping he's a gem. I do have to say I'd prefer Blatche not play in summer league as I thinkit will only hurt Young, Pech, McGee, etc....It won't benefit Blatche at all and he'll just take valuable minutes away from those other guys.

Yeah my initial response would be it would keep the knucklehead out of trouble, but then again i don't think the team should allow him within a 300 mile radius of Vegas. Put him on lockdown with a weight bench, enough protein for 6 human beings, one hoop, and a bunch of tape of Kevin Garnett.

I'm looking forward to the summer league. I'll be there in two weeks. I'll miss the game on the 14th but will be able to catch the last four.

So far we've these six guys scheduled to participate:

C - Javale McGee
F/C - Andray Blatche (probably won't play all 5 games)
F/C - Oleksiy Pecherov
F - Dominic McGuire
F - Gary Forbes
G - Nick Young

The roster is very top heavy with size and we may have the biggest roster in the SL. I think EG wants a veteran distributor at PG that's not going to dominate the ball and take away shot opportunities from the young pups. I wouldn't be surprised to see Brian Chase or Aaron Miles get another run with us. They know their roles pretty well. Usually SL play favors ballhandling guards who dominate the rock and shotjack at every opportunity. With all our young bigs, that's not going to happen with our roster.

I think we should have one of the better summer league teams this team around. Hopefully Wes Unseld Jr can coach these guys up.

BTW, thanks for the info Pine. Checking around, I realized that Luxor deal was too good to pass up.

The Wizards first game - vs Portland with their young squad - should be a good one.

P.S. Dat, in Caesar's Palace, right in front of Pure, are a bunch of blackjack tables where all the dealers are kinda hot and they have dancers on poles right behind them. Pine's advice: Don't play blackjack there. You just can't concentrate and lose your money quickly.

You can bet that they were strategically placed there.

Luckily, I don't gamble much...although I might play a little poker while I'm there. I just hope I don't get too drunk and lose it in the strip clubs and start "making it rain".

Portland is a team I'm definitely wanting to see. If the rules would allow, they could run more than half their roster in Vegas with all that young talent. I wonder if we'll get a look at Oden in the summer league?

More info on the roster from the Moonie Blog

Mike Jones wrote:Veterans Andray Blatche, Nick Young, Dominic McGuire, Oleksiy Pecherov, rookie JaVale McGee and 2006 second-round pick Vladimir Veremeenko already have spots on the team.

The rest of the list for now is: Georgetown's Jonathan Wallace, George Mason's Will Thomas, College of Charleston point guard Dontaye Draper, former Indiana standout A.J. Guyton, former UMass and UVa swingman Gary Forbes, Fairleigh Dickenson forward Mike Peeples, former Wake Forest forward Vytas Danelius from Lithuania, Winthrop forward Taj McCullough and Drexler center Frank Elegar.

An additional name or two could also be added to the list, which is expected to be finalized on Monday.

Looks like Wallace and this Draper kid (about whom I know nothing) will be given long looks as our 3rd PG. I'd love to see Wallace make the team.

It wouldn't shock me if Wallace makes a run for a Zards roster spot. He's an excellent shooter, a smart player, and he's played in the Princeton offense. But he doesn't have the proverbial NBA body, and he's not a true PG. He's going to have to show he has the PG skills to make it.

Sounds like Forbes maybe takes Mason's roster spot. Or if Mason re-signs, Forbes fights with Dom for a spot.
