If I were GM I would...

Post#1 » by rrini » Sun Jul 6, 2008 9:02 pm

Given that owner Abe Polin is old and sick, it should come as no surprise that he wants to win now. In that case, re-building was not an option so these moves to re-sign AJ and Gilbert make sense.

Keep a close eye on whether EJ gets an extension as this is the last year of his contract and EG loves Tom T. from the Celtics. He is an expert on Defense which we all know equals championships. If the Wiz start off badly (again) look for a coaching change.

In the meantime, If I were GM, I would look to put a deal together for Camby--a guy EG knows well from his days as Knicks GM. Camby plays D and blocks shots and is reportedly available and can still contribute for 2-3 more years while we groom McGee. Matching salaries could be tricky and may mean we give up Haywood who should be traded now while his stock is high following a carreer year. I would throw in any of Blatche, Petch, the Navarro contingent pick, Etan ( hopeless to trade until he gets back on the court), or D-Song (please take this guy). We may have to take back K-Mart's bad contract but given how hard he plays D, that might not be so bad.

I would also explore signing Kurt Thomas under the MLE though he duplicates Etan and D-Song.

A good young guard who can defend a small pg like Boykins would also be nice.

As much as I like Mason, he may be better off elsewhere to get more pt and N Young needs pt here to develop so I would save money and put the emphasis on a defensive big to compensate for poor defense of Jamison and Arenas.

Otherwise I am afraid we have not improved enough to compete with Boston,Cleveland and Detroit no less up and coming teams like Atlanta, Orlando, Miami, Philadelphia and Chicago. If the plan is to win now, lets get more D and shot blocking and make a move to the next level during the next 2-3 years. I am tired of mediocrity from this team.

Isn't Kurt Thomas like 40? Or close to it? Screw that crap.

IBTL, baby!

If I were president, if I were president
I’d make sure all the money spent
Onnnnnnnn, good things
I wouldn’t have no lint in my pocket
I’d rock it rock it I’d shock it
I would not jock the fact that there are
Rich people in the world because yo I got a girl
And she needs new clothes and I need new sneakers...

I am not a fan of EJ at all. His erractic substitution paterns, complicated defensive schemes which leave the perimeter open and over-playing of the big three have contributed to the rash of injuries. I favor a Haywood for Camby trade (with filler) and am emphasis on defense, rebounding and passing.
BTW, Kurt Thomas could be a vauable role player but is not a savior. I also like Chris Wilcox. What would you do this off-season now that AJ and Gil are re-signed?? Other than calling me names.

I hope that Abe wins the lottery and we can pay a bunch in luxury tax.

Otherwise we sit on what we have and make a play for somebody next offseason.
