Question to Wiz fans

Post#1 » by shspg5 » Wed Jul 9, 2008 2:47 pm

I was wondering if you guys are ok with the amount of money Gilbert got. I was curious do you guys feel he is THAT MUCH better then Baron. Maybe Davis could have been signed to his deal with you guys and that would have left you with so much more money to improve. Gilbert is a better player but not by that much money. Baron is about half the money, which you could of used to improve your frontcourt or get a real SG to move Stevenson to 6th man. What do you guys think about that. Just curious

Baron Davis is certainly a better deal for the money. But your question is pointless. The Wizards did not have the opportunity to sign Baron Davis because we were over the salary cap. Our choices were to sign Arenas for $111M over 6 years, or let him walk. That's it.

The general concensus on this board is that we had no choice but to sign. If we let him walk, the team would be stuck in purgatory as a .500 team with no real chance of competing for a title or even into the 2nd round of the playoffs (while also being too good to get a serious chance to win the lottery).

IBTL

Historically, Baron Davis has been an injury plagued player. With the exception of last year and then a 5th of the year before that, Gil is the man. I'd take Gil anyday.
