Junk thread, but it is an obvious point. How much money does Gil's generous "donation" free-up for the organization? Not-much, we were able to sign a 3rd-tier PG for scrub-wages, with little left-over.
$111 mil factoring the no-agent savings and the knee surgeries, we over-paid - thanks to Golden State & Clippers desparation bidding.

I don't think Gil is such a hero, since we didn't leave much on the table really given he wasn't paying an agent 10%. That saved him $12.6 mil off the original $126 mil deal, so in reality he left $3.4 mil over 5 years. That's peanuts on a $111 mil contract. It's just enough to leave us under the lux cap.

But I did like Gil owning up that he needs to stop some of the foolishness. Does that mean playing D and not leaving Delonte West wide open for game winning 3 pointers in the playoffs?

It's a big deal given to a big time player who is in no way comprable to Redd beyond the fact they shoot 3's well. It's a big risk if his knee doesn't heal, but otherwise it's a deal that is way better for the organization than the max Gil COULD have signed for.

I'm just sick of the morons who before the deal were saying Gil was demanding a max contract and screaming how he wasn't worth it when pretty much nobody had reported anything of the sort (and they were OBVIOUSLY wrong about his demands seeing that he didn't sign for it).

Now he's signed, and we got people like this guy saying Gil is flaunting himself as a philanthropist, when you've got an article used as a link where Gil says absolutely nothing of the sort.

Ugh. IBTL.
