just glad gil isn't on this list, though he's probably underrated at this point, with everyone thinking he's a ballhogging chucker despite all the evidence against such an assertion

That's gotta be about the stupidest list I could imagine. 4 out of 5 of those players are underrated. Does Fox have any competent sports analyst?

Re: Fox Sports 5 Most Overrated NBA Players
So-So list, Yao and Battier shouldn't be on the list. D Wade is the most overrated player in the NBA. Not sure how people lump him in with Lebron and Kobe when he isn't better than Gilbert Arenas.

Not sure how Mo Williams is underrated. He is an undersized SG masquerading as a PG, who couldn't run a decent offense if his life depended on it. He is also a chucker and has very poor shot selection

That list definitely looks more underrated than overrated. Can't say I agree with a single name as being overrated at all, let alone among the most overrated. My non-researched overrated list would look something like:
+ Jason Kidd
+ Stephen Jackson
+ Richard Jefferson
+ Ben Gordon
+ Rasheed Wallace
+ Jason Kidd
+ Stephen Jackson
+ Richard Jefferson
+ Ben Gordon
+ Rasheed Wallace

Re: Fox Sports 5 Most Overrated NBA Players
Rasheed Wallace has never been overrated. The thing about Rasheed Wallace that makes him very underrated to me is his defense. Sheed has offensive talent, but he's never been consistent enough to be a great #1 option. His defense though has always been elite. He's an incredible defender. While Ben Wallace got a lot of the credit in Detroit Sheed was always a better defender. Sheed was always the one who did Ben's dirty work and banged with the bigger centers and tough matchups. Sheed could play almost anyone man up and also provide solid help. Ben Wallace was much more of a help guy than a straight up defender.

Got to agree with you on Sheed. I think sometimes we pay too much attention to his three pointers and too little attention to how good (and tough) he is on defense.

Re: Fox Sports 5 Most Overrated NBA Players
It's crazy to call DWade overrated and then back it up by saying an injured Wade couldn't lift a bad Miami team. I'd pay more attention to his Olympic play. The beast in Wade is back. I love Gil but he's not better than DWade.

Calling Dwayne Wade and Yao Ming overrated is asinine. I agree completely about Shawn Marion though. He's more of an athletic freak than a skilled basketball player and many casual fans act as if he's a highly skilled player.
John Salmons is a guy I'd like to give honorable mention to as underrated.

Re: Fox Sports 5 Most Overrated NBA Players
My overrated list:
PG Jason Kidd - No longer the difference maker he once was. Dallas closed their own window of opportunity by trading Devin Harris & more for him.
SG Ray Allen - Had a bit of a rebirth in the playoffs last year but was completely underserving on an all-star birth last year. Father time is beginning to catch up with Jesus Shuttlesworth.
SF Shane Battier - The only one I agree with off the foxsports list. He's an absolutely wretched offensive player.
PF Rashard Lewis - Played more like the MLE man rather than a $100 million dollar man. Never much of a defender or rebounder but offensively he became exclusively a jump shooter and often struggled hitting shots even with a guy like Dwight Howard drawing all sorts of attention down low.
C Jermaine O'Neal - I like O'Neal but until he proves otherwise, he's a injury-prone, mid-range bricking big man who's seen better days. At least he can still defend at a high level.
My underrated list:
PG Jose Calderon - Established himself as a terrific floor leader and really improved his jumpshot. I think Gilbert was wrong for bashing this guy last year.
SG J.R. Smith - He's mainly on this list because he's been so maglined throughout his career, even though he's only 22 yrs old (younger than Nick Young). While his shot selection and maturity still leaves alot to be desired, he's actually a very efficient scorer. Had the highest PER of anybody in the playoffs not named Kobe or LeBron. I think he's a future all-star before its said & done.
SF Corey Maggette - Corey is another one who seems to get a bad rap as one with questionable shot selection or selfish but he's also an efficient scorer. He's a vicious slasher. Gets to the line alot and built like a mack truck. Compared to what Iggy got this offseason, Maggette's deal with GS was a relative bargin.
PF Carl Landry - Didn't see a ton of minutes last year, less than 17 minutes per in only 42 games, but boy was he impressive in his time on the court. Not sure if he can up a FG% of over .600 but his defense & board work were a big part in Houston's sustained success after Yao went down.
C Brendan Haywood - Do I even need to explain myself here?
PG Jason Kidd - No longer the difference maker he once was. Dallas closed their own window of opportunity by trading Devin Harris & more for him.

No doubt, Haywood is underrated, sadly maybe even by his own coach. I'm expecting a solid season out of Hay this year. He's a double double guy with 2 blocks if he gets 34 minutes per.

That list is whack. I agree with Haywood being underrated as well as Caron (even if I think he's becoming less so). But how are you going to say Yao and Dwane are overrated? They are superstars in this league everybody looks at them as the best because they actually are. And how can you say that after looking at their Olympic play? wow. What a crack article.

Re: Fox Sports 5 Most Overrated NBA Players
The original list is ridiculous...
Best quote on that site...
Please, if you`re going to start an overrated list you have to start with Dirk (Soft Serve) Nowitzski...you can add Carmelo until he gets consistent (in a good way) during the playoffs and obtains the slightest hint of a defensive game...Vince Carter, until he actually wins something instead of running a "whinery" during the season...Stephon Marbury, for...well for any number of reasons, and okay, you can leave Yao in the mix...he`s tall and reasonably coordinated, but he`s an injury away from being Shawn Bradley. Wade is the real deal, Horry has never really been hyped, but you can`t argue with success, I think the jury`s still out on Marion (though his jumpshot, if you can call it that, offends me greatly), and Battier, while not a star (everybody can`t be), is a solid role player.
