Wilbon on the Wiz

http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/co ... id=topnewsDon't fire EJ? He's had five years to develop a semblence of a defense. Does not even address the stupid "protect the paint" philopsophy. How is EG supposed to trade for improvements without trading Jamison? Trade for Tinsley? Awful idea, considering Dixon would probably outplay him.

The dumbest thing the Washington Wizards could do right now is fire Eddie Jordan. - Michael Wilbon
FAIL.

I stopped reading after Wilbon suggested Jamaal Tinsley as a potential answer at PG.
Wilbon is the last guy I'd go to for basketball advice. This is the same guy after all that was the biggest media advocate of that franchise crushing Issac Austin for Ben Wallace deal.

It's funny. I tend to enjoy Wilbon on the various shows he appears on. But whenever he speaks on Wizards basketball, I wretch. He's like a shining beacon of the .500-or-bust mentality.

Funny. I stopped reading Wilbon after he slammed Sean Taylor posthumously. His a** should have been canned after that disrespectful stunt.

Wilbon makes some silly suggestions (Tinsley, for one), but the basic premise is solid. The Wizards roster, as presently constituted, stinks. Firing Jordan won't change that. He may not be the right guy to lead the team to a title, but making a change now won't accomplish anything.

he's making comments from a passing 3rd point perspective. he would have more passion on the subject if it was a chicago sports team.

I like Wilbon as a writer, but he can care less about the Wiz. The only Washingtonian columnist at the WAPO with credibility is Boswell, and he can care less about the NBA. Who really cares about the team? Mike Wise? Sally Jenkins doesn't even live here. I try reading Tom Knott, but can anybody take him seriously anymore. At one point, he was the right wing, Tony K. and now he's more like Rush Hannity.

In that sense, Wilbon offers a different perspective than any of the fans here. Sure he has his limitations (i.e. the Jamal Tinsley solution) but Wilbon recognizes the limitations of our roster. As fans, we often overvalue stock on our own roster.

Exactly. He's never in doubt, but when it comes to basketball - he's almost always laughably wrong.

Everything Wilbon said about the Wiz was right.
McGee needs more playing time.
Get some help. I wouldnt mind Tinsley, Lowry, etc. A healthy Antonio Daniels hasnt done anything productive. He's wearing down.
Dont ask Caron and AJ to hold down the fort till Gill comes back.
Dont fire EJ right now.......maybe later but not at this point.

I too stopped reading after the Jamaal Tinsely suggestion.
This is the same guy who said we should draft Rafeal Arujo a few years back.

egads, that's bad.
i see no reason to fire EJ now though. i mean we suck but that's cause our roster sucks. who wants an interim coach all year and then bungled coaching search followed by a mediocre replacement and three years of system adjustment.
look the bottom line is that our window (because of injuries) with this current roster is finished this year. we have another year after that with the starting five. after that we need replacements and the 2 (young?) and 4 (blatche?). basically this season is probably a write off as is. this is the year that EG needs to earn his money (through some deft moves to dump and replace the spare parts). next year is the year that EJ needs to earn his.

He should be fired because he didn't give this team a foundation to rely upon if either Haywood went down or the scoring went down.
Nobody on this team ever gave effort besides Brendan, mostly because Eddie never held them accountable. No, the roster does not suck. Eddie Jordan has two All Star forwards at his disposable along with a 2nd year player who's playing on fire right now.
We are losing because this clown never preached defense. If you really think the roster sucks that bad that we are the worst team in the league, you are simply an idiot.

please.
putting aside the three players you mentioned.
we have a rapidly aging point guard who could never hit a jumper and has lost another step of quickness. we have a starting shooting guard who plays ok defense but isn't good at anything, the very definition of mediocrity. we have a short center who isnt good at team defense (and thereby defensive team management), offensive rebounding and cant hit a shot outside of five feet. our backup point guard is short and fast and nothing else. our backup forwards are under and over achievers respectively.
the bench was built for supplementary elements. they arent good at and arent capable of expanding their games and werent signed to do that.
when our starting backcourt cant shoot and is a bit slow and our starting center is undersized, slow, cant manage a game defensively and cant bailout our undersized forwards we are gonna suck.
jamison hasnt been able to replicate last year, blatche is still blatche and daniels is rapidly declining. in order to salvage this season those three things need to turn out differently.
we arent good (without arenas and haywood). deal with it.

O rly? Tell me something I didn't know.
This is borderline hilarious. You can't blame Ernie for putting together a bad team, because well Ernie is god. You can't blame EFJ for making this team suck, well because the roster sucks.
But I repeat this roster doesn't suck. A team with two all star forwards and a semi decent bench should not be the worst in the league. But we are and we most likely will be for a long time. If you still can't see the problems this team has, you obviously aren't watching the games.
We have always sucked REALLY BAD on defense even with Haywood. It's just that these stupid injuries always buy EJ an excuse and hide what is really wrong with this team. The defense is whats wrong. THE DEFENSE, which all of you Ernie and EFJ apologists ignore so blatantly.
Get your heads out of the sand and watch the games. Haywood, or no Haywood, Arenas or no Arenas, this team SUCKS on defense and the man responsible for that is the one you make so many excuses for.

Just because Butler and Jamison are all stars doesn't mean they are one of the top duos in the league.
Here is a list of 16 team's duos who are better IMO than Butler/Jamison
- Joe Johnson and Horford (not sure if Bibby or Smith is better but you should get the gist that the Hawks are much deeper)
- Dwight Howard and Rashard Lewis
- Dwayne Wade and Shawn Marion
- LeBron James and Big Z
- AI and Rasheed Wallace
- KG and Paul Pierce
- Elton Brand and Iggy
- Chris Bosh and Jose Calderon
- Dirk and Josh Howard
- Yao and T-Mac
- Chris Paul and Tyson Chandler
- Anthony and Billups
- Roy and Aldridge
- Williams and Boozer
- Kobe and Gasol
- Amare and Nash
At least half the league have better duos than the Wizards. And as BanndNDC wrote, the rest of the starting 5 isn't anything to brag about.
