Do we hate LeBron because he plays for Cleveland, which has wiped the floor with us the last three playoffs? Or do we just hate LeBron? Will we start rooting for him when he goes to NY?

Why would we root for him in NY? I hate NY as much as I hate Cleveland. Actually, I hate NY more.

Overall, I'm agnostic on Lebron. I'm amazed at how good of a player he is, but I hate the whining and the referee favoritism. I don't know if I could ever find myself rooting for him like a root for guys sucha as Duncan and Nash; but I have no hate for him either.

I don't hate Lebron. I'm not a fan of what nate points out -- the whining and favortism, but neither Cavs fans when it came to MJ.

Two things have greatly enhanced my appreciation for the guy:

1) Team USA in Beijing. I care about USA Basketball and its place in the world and I was extremely proud of Lebron's play and conduct in representing the US.

2) His SNL appearance last year. The guy was hilarious and did stuff that proved beyond a shadow of a doubt that he doesn't take himself too seriously. If you haven't seen it, check it out on Hulu -- especially the high school the musical sketch.

I do hate that Knicks -- ever since th days of John Starks and Anthony Mason. I hate their loud, great fans too. Hopefully the Wiz can right this ship and develop a real rivalry with NY in a couple years.

actually I'll be very happy. Because my like or dislike or Lebron will remain the same. But My laughter and much happiness will come from the fact Cleveland will suck again for an unforeseeable future. That will be so good. all those suddenly arrogant Cavs fans will be left without anything again. All those guys who were saying the wizards suck etc when their team is only good cause of one player will have nothing to root for. I wonder where they will be then or will they band wagon onto the knicks

I'll feel the same for a month or two and then I'll feel sorry for them. Except when we steamroll their butts in the 2011 playoffs. Well, if they make it.

Meh, I'm indifferent towards Lebron. Dude is a monster on the court and owns us, thats what great players do. Yeah he gets calls, but so did all the greats. Such is life.

The premise of the question is wrong: I hate him already. I will hate him even more if he goes to the Knicks.

Lebron represents all that's wrong with sports in general and the NBA in particular. He's a total media whore/media creation.

He's a good player -- there's no arguing that. He can do some amazing things. But having him stuffed down our throats every week, having him pumped up to be a god, is nauseating. His arrogance, his narcissism, is offensive. His team is a bore. He hasn't won a title. And his pouting and whining are unbecoming of a truly great player.

If he goes to the Knicks, I will suspect a fix. And I will be bothered more by that, than by the Donaghy thing.

If he goes to the Knicks, then bear in mind: that's all we, as NBA fans, will hear about for the next decade.

If he goes to the Knicks and turns on his hometown Cleveland fans, then he's even more contemptible a character than I thought. If he goes, it will say: Money trumps everything. Image trumps everything. I am a brand and nothing more. I am the biggest corporate/media slut there is.

As it is, the little trails of hints he's leaving -- this coy game of will he or won't he that's playing out in the press -- is demeaning of his team, his teammates, and his hometown city.

I don't hate any basketball player. I do dislike him greatly and will dislike him even more if he is a Knick.

I dislike him even more for toying with the state of Ohio. That's just not cool. They have been having tough economic times for longer than most of the country. Sports is a good distraction. The Cavs organization have made moves to help the team compete for a championship. Lebron allowing these Knicks rumors to breathe is classless. (this coming from a guy that hates the Cavs with great passion)

Excellent post and couldn't agree more. Its not possible for me to dislike him any more whether he goes to the Knicks or not. However, I do think I'll hate the media even more once he's in NY. They shove him down our throats now and with the NY media on board that will only get worse.

At least he won't be as boring to watch under D'Antoni as he is under Brown.

Ill hate Lebron regardless. But i'd probably hate him more after teh NY media fellates his every move.

i dont hate lebron because of the team he is on. i hate him because he is an insufferable whiny fake self-entitled jerk of a media creation. i hate him because he could have been the greatest basketball player ever. his court vision is superb. he could have been the next better magic johnson.

Most of the obnoxious ones you are talking about are just the LeBron bandwagon fans that will just follow him to NY.

So I caught most of the hoopla last night and I've come to this conclusion:

Lebron is as good as gone. Probably not to the Knicks, but he's bolting.

reasons i don't like lebron (the last one i guess shows what i really feel...):
-He has an ugly, ugly jumpshot

-He bullies his way to the rim and isn't called for offensive fouls

-He abuses the jump step to the point of illegality

-His passing, though good for someone 6'8, is overrated

-His image just reeks of effort and there's something very disingenuous about him whenever he's on camera. You know that Kobe's branded himself a cold bastard deep down, Gilbert's a kid, Steve Nash is a kooky canadian... But for trying to be the most recognizable athlete on earth, what has lebron tried to sell himself as? some guy who seems insecure and resentful of his small town home and wants to make it in the big city? a money-grubbing mercenary? Someone who loves the spotlight more than the game? He got drafted by the hometown team but he doesn't want to take them the distance? I guess in the end, it's his life and his choice, but in choosing another team over the incumbent when the incumbent is willing to dole out cash just doesn't sit well with me.

As long as he's hailed as the King and hyped beyond comparison and he still hasn't won a ring. YES.
