http://www.nba.com/2009/allstar2009/01/ ... index.htmlBut of course 28 year old Luis Scola makes the team yet again. Wizards fans have absolutely nothing to look forward to this all star weekend.

These things are just all about PT. If NY and Javale got the PT the other guys got, they'd be there too.

I mean did anyone from the Wizards actively lobby for the guy?

I hope nobody actually expected either to make it. The rosters are determined by name recognition and per-game (as opposed to per-minute) numbers, neither of which are strong suits for any of our young guys.

Amen bro. Folks acting like Young actually deserved to go. Truth is he didn't. There's only one part of his game that's average to slightly above average and its his ability to score. Hell, he can't even start for the worst team in the NBA b/c he's such a one-trick pony.
Now McGee is a different story. Had he gotten the minutes he would definitely have made it. You can certainly blame Eddie T for that one.

I've never seen you tell Caron or Twan to play defense.

The Tankscott/Jordan double-standard has trickled down to the fans too.

Are you of the position that I defend Caron and Jamison too much, but am irrationally unsupportive of Young? Hooey. Every trade proposal I concoct has us netting an upgrade at PF and sending Jamison out of town for a SG upgrade. And I always called out hands on his assertion that this was Caron's team and he was a legit #1 option. He's a 3rd option on an elite caliber team.If caron and antawn played defense, we wouldnt have the worst record in the league and they wouldn't be whining about their respective impending all-star snubs.
Nick Young can fly and has a buttery jumper. So maybe the NBA should have put him in their little and-1 bastardization of basketball exhibition. But he is light years away from being a consistent reliable above-average NBA 2 gaurd. His ceiling is as a Vinnie Johnson-type 6th man scorer (which aint bad for a mid-late 1st rounder, btw).
Truth is, a main likely reason that Nick didnt make the game and that AJ and CB wont be in the ASG is a guy named Zack Bolno. he headed up the Wiz PR staff for the last few years and promoted the heck out of the Big 3 in the media and league circles. He left the org last year to take a job with the Skins. Remember all that pub about the Vote the Redskins Ticket and how Skins fans made a mockery of the Pro Bowl? That's Zack earning his paycheck.

I don't think Nick deserved to go. He's not having a stand out season, he's not decidedly better than any of the other players that were named and to top it off -- our team stinks. I don't think anyone from a single digit win team should be rewarded in any way.
But I disagree, that it was his defense that kept him off the team. I don't know how these guys are selected for this game but I doubt defense is even on the list of things the "selection committee" considers. If anything, Nick Young’s game is tailor made for these types of games.

He should definitely make it over Aaron Brooks, but it doesn't really surprise me that no Wizards will be in All-Star Weekend. Truth be told, nobody really cares about the Wizards. At least with other bottom-dwelling teams like the Thunder, they have a #2 draft pick and future superstar in Durant to make them interesting. But us? We have two veteran scorers in Jamison and Butler, neither of whom are particularly exciting to watch (unless you like TONS of perimeter shots) and a bunch of really boring veterans who get lots of minutes because they're...well....veterans and thusly much better than anyone who isn't a veteran.

I guess Brooks makes it cuz they need a 2nd PG, but Ramon Sessions has better stats than him last year and this year.
The rookie team has 1 forward - Beasley - and 3 centers. Rudy's gonna have to play forward the whole game.
Even still, I'm picking the rookie to team to upset the sophs.
Edit: Btw, Wilson Chandler wouldn't be on the soph team if he wasn't a shot chucker getting big minutes. I'd rather have Dom on my team.

bp, just to clarify, I wasnt making the case that nick's D kept him out of the rookie game. I was simply saying that he should worry about becoming a more complete and consistent player and not some silly exhibition.

Nick Young's lack of minutes kept him off the team compared to other guys who made the team. If he averaged 30 minutes, he would be on the team.

A very interesting, underreported but true point. Just imagine if Snyder decided to hire a GM rather than a pr hype machine.
