MIN/MEM/WAS Trade: Has Real Potential

Grizz fan here!!!!! There's been a lot of speculation about u guys trading the 5th pick, and the latest is Minnesota trying 2 acquire it and give it 2 us for the 2nd pick. So let's see what u guys think about this:

Min Receives:
#2 Pick
#27 Pick
Darko Milicic
DeShawn Stevenson

Mem Receives:
#5 Pick
#6 Pick
Etan Thomas
Mike James

Was Receives:
#18 Pick
#28 Pick
Randy Foye
Mike Miller
Hakim Warrick(S&T)

Now personally if u guys wanted 2 still have a lottery pick, I believe Min should trade the 18th and 28th pick 2 someone like Indiana at #13, and give u guys that pick. But I feel u guys get the most leverage out this trade, because u guys get SO DEEP! Then u guys can package a few of those players 2 go get an Amare, whom u guys are really coveting and still remain a very deep team. Let me hear some feedback.

Well, since you asked, here's the feedback I would offer:

1. Just an FYI - this board prefers to keep all Trade proposals in the Trade thread. Nothing personal if it gets merged/locked, just keeps it cleaner. You'll probably hear that more than anything.
2. The only way we have a chance at Amare is with the #5 pick. Giving it away as step 1 of a plan to get Amare means that the plan is fatally flawed.
3. Don't want Hakim Warrick, so he'd have to be left out.
4. We don't really need more depth at this point. In fact, we'd be willing to part with some of our depth to get an impact player (hence the Amare discussion).
5. On balance, the trade isn't awful in the abstract, but really doesn't help us in either the short or long term. For us, it'd be #5, James, Thomas, and Stevenson for #18, #28, Miller, and Foye. (I've already cut out Warrick.) Looks like it's almost entirely cap-neutral, with expirings going out (Thomas, James) and coming in (Miller). Foye & Stevenson are pretty close in salary, and the picks should balance out dollar-wise. So there's no real salary benefit to doing the deal.

Which leaves us with #5 for #18, #28, and Foye. Again, talent-wise it might look even on paper, but as mentioned, we're looking for impact players, not to pile up more fringe rotation guys. And given that we already have too many projects, adding two more rookies (3 if you count the second rounder) is not in our future.

Hope that helps - not trying to blast the idea, but I just don't think we'd be interested. (Now, if an Amare deal was already on the table, and for some reason PHX wanted in on the buffet plate we'd get from this deal then yes - we'd be interested. But again - I doubt that's very likely.)

^ Sev is right on all counts. I posted this in another thread yesterday:

Wizards trade: #5, Blatche, James, and Etan
Wizards receive: Amare

Suns trade: Amare
Suns receive: #5, James, and Mike Miller

Grizzlies trade: #2 and Jaric
Grizzlies receive: #6 and Blatche

Wolves trade: #6 and Mike Miller
Wolves receive: #2, Jaric, and Etan

Washington gets Amare, while Phoenix gets solid value in return. Memphis gets a young PF/C and cap savings to move down 4 spots, while Minny gets Thabeet without moving Love.

The one thing the Wizards are NOT looking for from this draft is more draft picks. This team is already chock-full of mid to late round youth.

And this belongs in the trade thread.
