Might as well lock the other one and toss around some speculation in here. There will be good players available and we now have roster slots to fit.

Haven't we been clamoring for the Wiz to select a decent back-up PG in the second round for years? How ironic will it be if the Wiz select Patty Mills or someone like that...

no need for pg or shooting guard with our trade. We need a player with Earl Clark's reach and explosive step on offense at the small forward spot.

I wouldn't be opposed to drafting a player like Pendergraph or Taj Gibson. Pendergraph seems like an ideal bench bigman with some toughness and work ethic, he would be my pick atm.

A Euro to stash or sell the pick is my best guess.

What? How is a player like Clark going to be available in the early second round, Clark will be a lottery selection, and why do we need another wing? DMac, Caron, and Miller are all 3's. The Wizards clearly need a PF or C.

I think the pick gets traded. It's basically a late 1st round pick.

You beat me to it. My guess is Pendergraph. He's got 15 year career backup PF all over him. He might not "wow" you but I could see him being a high energy role player for long time, Kurt Thomas ish if he can develop a mid range jumper. Also with Blatche's inconsistencies and McGee's lack of experience and fundamentals I think we could use another big to fill out the rotation at 4/5 with Songaila gone.

losing songaila means we should look into a PF. i think Pendergraph/Heytvalt/Aminu are 3 PFs that would pan out well for 2nd rounders.

However, seeing as how it's the 2nd round, and we're stuck with Javaris Crittenton as our backup pg, nabbing a backup point guard wouldn't be the worst idea either. patty mills, jack mcclinton, and lester hudson come immediately to mind.

Assuming we don't use it as a sweetener to coerce some team to deal for Stevenson, James, and/or Crittenton, there's almost always a few quality guys in that area, so there's still a little intrigue for draft night. Just looking back at the past few years, here are some players drafted right around that spot:

2008: Mario Chalmers (34)
2007: Tiago Splitter (28), Carl Landry (31), Glen Davis (35)
2006: Craig Smith (36)
2005: David Lee (30), Brandon Bass (33)
2004: Beno Udrih (28), Andersen Varejao (30)

Sure, most of them are nothing special, but they're solid. With with EG's second round track record, I think we could get someone decent there.

As for specific players, well, I have no idea. I haven't paid much attention to that part of the draft, and the few that I do know are all guards, which we certainly don't need now (outside of stashing Calathes, should he be on the board). I have no clue who the forwards are that will be down there. Time for research!

If Mills is available, the Wizards should jump at the opportunity.

Ha, I was about to post the same thing. Unless we're stashing a foreign kid for a year or two, there's a 0% chance we draft a PG. He'd be coming in as a fifth stringer and lucky to even make the roster, let alone get real minutes and a chance to make an impact.

yeah a banger that can wear down the opposing teams big man, can block shots, and hit the midrange jumper and has a high motor for rebounds.

I'd take Collison and worry about minutes later. If this deal goes through there surely must be another coming where we ship Stevenson or James for a 4/5.

The best Big on my board at that point is definitely Pendergraph.

I like combo forward Derrick Brown. And wrecking ball Jon Brockman. I like long-armed bridge-troll Jeff Adrien. I like the upside of an Alade Aminu.

But Pendergraph put out consistent effort and production at both ends of the court every time I saw him. No real range, but reliable underneath.

That said I suspect Ernie will take Aminu, if not a Euro player. He's got the best raw upside.
