Assuming no more trades and health next year

Post#1 » by Ji » Thu Jun 25, 2009 12:24 am

what early projection record do you give the Wizards....

...i think we have added 2 really good players and will be a matchup nightmare for alot of teams. I would of liked to have kept the pick and drafted Rubio or Curry but this trade as much as I dont think its a great trade will make us better next year...

my projection........and I went 25-57 last year I think...

50-32! First 50 win team since the 70's for the Wizards...but this is assuming health. We will be the #3 or #4 seed and get to the 2nd round

Before the trade, considering the coaching change and the potential for health (*gasp*), I would have put this team at a record of 44-38. I think this trade helped us by a fairly sizable margin even though it didn't address our defensive woes, so I'll increase the win total by about 5 games, which would put us at 49-33.

FWIW, Van Gundy said that the Wiz are a mid-50's win team.

President Donald Trump referred to African countries, Haiti and El Salvador as "shithole" nations during a meeting Thursday and asked why the U.S. can't have more immigrants from Norway.

52-30, second in the division, fourth seed, defeat Philadelphia 4-2 in the first round, lose to Cleveland 4-3 in the second round, done.

I'll go with my best case scenario which is a 55 win team in the regular season that loses to Orlando in the Eastern Conference Finals. We beat Cleveland 4-0 in the second round on their home court. I'll make a bold prediction that LeBron will not shake hands.

I think our new found depth will help both prevent and mitigate the effects of injuries. I still think another trade's in the works within the next 48 hours, but with this roster put me down right now for 52 freaking wins. I have not ever been this optimistic about the Bullets/Wiz. We are the deepest team in the East. (started rooting in the early 90's for all you original fans)
Making extreme statements like "only" sounds like there are "no" Jokics in this draft? Jokic is an engine that was drafted in the 2nd round. Always a chance to see diamond dropped by sloppy burgular after a theft.

I think 45-37. Probably win the first round and lose in the second.

So basically you think we'll have close to the same record we had two years ago?

I am thinking more of the 2004-5 season. I think our big 3 is comparable to that team. Jamison was at his prime in 2004/5 and I think Butler is better than Hughes. However Arenas likely will not be the player he was then at least initially. There were some good defensive role players(Jefferies, Etan) on that team. Next season we have better offensive players, but a weakness in defense beyond Haywood.

Also looking at the stats, that team was not as good as its record. Despite being 8 games over .500 they were outscored on average(100.8 to 100.3).

You're kidding me, Etan is a terrible defender, he always has been, and only played 47 games in 04-05. He missed half the season with an abdominal strain.

This Wizards team is infinitely better than the 04-05 team. Jamison is just as good now as he was then, his stats and per will testify of that, and I'm not much of a Jamison fan. Arenas wasn't necessarily Agent Zero at that point, his season average was 25. I'm certain Arenas will not return to his 06-08 form when he was 2nd team all-nba, but I'm confident he'll be as good a player as he was before, which is essentially the 04-05 Arenas. Blatche and McGee are both better reserve bigs than Etan, Brown, and Ruffin were and Haywood has developed both offensively and defensively since then.

The guards for this coming season are vastly superior than in 04-05. That year the main reserves were Juan Dixon, Jarvis Hayes(for half the year), and Steve Blake. Even Mike James and DeShawn Stevenson are better at this point then the reserve guards were then.

The trouble is the Eastern Confrence has really developed a few power house teams. The Magic, Celtics and Cav's are all very very good. IF any of those teams win the championship next year I will not be shocked. In 04-05 the East was a pretty depressing sight.

48-34, 7-seed. beat the cavs in 6 in DC causing mild suburban rioting. beat the heat in 7. excessive regional binge-drinking ensues. lose to the Celtics in 6 in the ECF. Cinderella season leaves much to be discussed going into the much heralded 2010 season.

just enough sucess to tease the management that the big 3 + role players is good enough to compete, yet not successful enough to win over fans. Jamison's defense is again called into question and the cycle will rebirth itself anew.

Put me down for 55 wins. I think it was a good trade. Miller and Foye
give us more than any pick could this season. I still think Ernie's got something in
mind to shore up the big man rotation especially with Shaq headed east.
It also frees up a bunch of cash for the 2010 free agency. A lot some guys will
not be getting the kind of deals they expected with the economic down turn and
bidding wars for other guys on the market. This opens the door for the Wiz to scoop
up a big addition.
