To recap:
+Hiring Flip Saunders.
+Acquiring Miller and Foye (in my opinion).
+Avoiding another buyout drama by passing on Rubio, who didn't want to play here anyway.
-Losing DSONG, but this is canceled out by the addition of Oberto.
+Getting rid of Etan.
If the biggest gripe with this offseason is passing on Blair and not being flashy enough, then I am pretty satisfied. Ernie's moves have been safe, but they have also mostly been logical. At least he has done something this summer. The last few offseasons had been a real bore. Bringing in Oberto is the right move. I am intrigued to see what we do at the deadline to create space in the backcourt and to perhaps add enough body down low. I am really excited about this team. My biggest worry though is the uncertainty about next summer. We better make a hell of a run this year.

The fact that he picked us over the Lakers is huge IMO. And congrats to Mike Lee for not getting scooped!

A perfectly solid fifth big. I'm curious what the terms are, but as far as on the court goes, it's a nice minor pickup.

Smart in-the-pinch bigman that is physical and makes the right plays. He's just fine backing up McGee if (when) McGee starts playing poorly.

Aldridge said we had a full Bi-Annual Exemption on the table, which is $1.99M. He didn't say whether it was a one-year or two-year offer.

Who is this guy exactly? Is he as annoying to play against as Nocioni? Cause we could definitely use that kind of player.
edited to add: yahoo en espanol has Oberto saying it's a one year deal- so straight from la boca del caballo.

I know we are talking about Oberto, but I think a lot of people on here are underestimating the addition of Mike Miller. He SHOULD have a monster year. He is going to get so many wide open 3's because of the attention that a healthy (please, please, please) Arenas will draw. Think about Nick Young too. He has never played on the court with Arenas at 100%.

I think you have to like this move
anyone who was a starter on a championship team has
got to be able to help you as the 11-12th (or lower) guy.
good move

Love the move.
Smart big who makes the right plays and is tough in the paint. Might not block shots but can be a pesty player to play against, who also can bring solid funadmentals on the offensive end.
Man this has been a good couple of days, Lebron footage comes out all over the net, of him getting posterized and now we get another big we desperately needed.

Since you put it that way, I'll climb aboard.
Not a sexy addition but okay, I'll buy in.

fabulous signing. overall, EG has done a very good job assemblying a very very talented and EXPERIENCED team. i think oberto is better for this team than blair would've been (especially considering how inexperienced mcgee is).
no disrespect to all the critics of EG but you have to admit, he's done pretty good.

I wonder which came first: Oberto picked Washington or SA signed Theo Ratliff.
I believe Oberto was contemplating returning to the Spurs.

pros: better post presence than DSong, better rebounder than DSong, better defense than DSong.
cons: limits mcgee to about about 10mpg, if that.

Wiz fans will really like Oberto's passing and basketball IQ. Whenever he was on the court for SA the offense seemed to move a lot smoother. He picks his spots perfectly offensively and is the sort of guy who will burn any team that forgets about him.
Oberto's only real weakness unfortunately is a fatal one; his athleticism. He has a tendency to be completely overwhelmed by high quality athletes, and this was made even worse playing for the Spurs last year. He's best paired with high quality athletes.
