god dang-it. how has this guy not learned to protect his body and not play in BS games like this in the hood. the reality is bad things can happen, just ask blatche and gil's scarred knee.

You know, I was thinking the same thing. Funny how no-one else on this board seems to care.

I've made the same point before (I think during the draft in the chat room), but it was taken that I was attacking Berry Farms and that event. I don't care how nice the court is, it's still an outdoor court of some type. I would feel better about it if he did this after playing a full injury free season, but of course I continue to hope this will be the year that happens.

I think everyone just needs to relax, he is a grown man, hes going to do what he wants... and yes he has a 111 million dollar contract to live up to, but ok these arent nba players hes going up against, this is not elite talent. And HONESTLY people, do you really think hes playing any sort of defense whatsoever? hes simply having fun out there, its like backyard ball , noones going to be going after him number 1 because they respect him for coming out there on his own, number 2 if he thought there was a chance of him reinjuring himself out there he definetely would not be playing, just let GIlbert be Gilbert... and also, i replayed that dunk at the end 20 times at least, that was incredible, he is BACK!!! the spring is back, the quickness is almost 100 %, i cant wait for this season to start already. And last but not least, Randy Foye has a video on NBA.COM's headlines, go check it out pretty cool

Hey, I've been saying "down with Gilbertology" for years now (which includes Barry Farms, blogging, internet poker at halftime, etc) and I usually get flamed for it.

I understand if this is a symbolic one-time thing for Gil, basically a tip of the hat to the community and a way to show that he's back. But if he plays for several days out there, then I think he's showing that he still hasn't learned his lesson.

Please, Gil. Don't eff this up. You cannot let Pistons fans be right about you.

Oh you Gilbertology hacks can shove off. He's a grown man and can do whatever the eff he wants. You want to talk about his contract, fine. Don't put a ****** leash around his neck and treat him like a porcelain doll.

After the last surgery, he said he'd follow the rehab to a tee. He missed all but 2 games doing that. So if he's actually playing in any type of competitive ball, would probably he's 100% confident in the knee. And if you don't like the way he gives back to the community then make a sign saying stop playing in the goodman league and hold it up in the verizon center in your $50 seat.

smh acting like this is how he got the original injury.

thats nice...

When he drops 35 in an NBA pre-season game... then I'll say he's back.

Fair enough.

these are pygmie potatoes compared to legitimate threats like biking (on a bicycle) to the verizon center. i think running up and down the court and playing against middling competition is way down on the concern list right now.

I'm right there with you, if it were his 1st surgery I'd be more inclined to agree with Gil playing @ Barry Farms BUT after his 3rd operation you got to wonder where his priorities are.

If we're not allowing to play in "meaningless" pickup games like Barry Farms, how about he doesn't participate in the "meaningless" Chicago pickup games? How about no basketball period until October? Or we can sit him out for the first half of the season....as a precaution. Or maybe just use him when we get to the playoffs.

Seriously, some of you guys are hilarious. The guy is a basketball player...that means at some point he's actually going to have to play...um...you know...basketball.

If someone can tell me that the outdoor surface at Berry Farms is comparable to the indoor court in Chicago where the pickup games occurred, then I will shut up. If the Berry Farms court is anywhere near a hard outdoor court then after three surgeries and two missed years for Gil, I have concerns about the wisdom of playing on it.

It's very good as far as hard court surfaces go.

Why run with the ponies when you can race with the thoroughbreds. It's a business, you got to protect your assets. I think Gils carrier will be over if he has to do a 4th surgery,

It's not like he got 2 or 3 more chances to rebuild his knee.
