As I was waiting for the cable guy to come this morning ,I stumbled upon this Sporcle quiz which asks you to name the starters for the Boston Celtics on Opening Night from 1986-2009:
http://www.sporcle.com/games/bunko/celtslineups

I thought that was pretty awesome, so I decided to create my own quiz for the Bullets/Wizards:
http://www.sporcle.com/games/Zack_Morris/wizardslineups

For those of you who have never played Sporcle, its an online quiz where you get to test your knowledge of trivia against other people. It is pretty addicting. For this quiz just press start and then start typing the names of players who have started for the Wizards on opening night from 1986-2009. Its ok to just type last names. In fact, it is generally a better idea to just put last names then you can't misspell the first name and you might get players you weren't thinking by accident.

I did my best include nicknames and put the players in order of what position they play. Invariably I made mistakes, just let me know and I will correct them.

I hope you guys enjoy.

60/115...not bad considering the only two I got before 1995 were when I typed in Williams, Smith, and Johnson trying to get lucky.

I forgot about Jarvis Hayes and Michael Ruffin.

87 of 115. Not too bad, especially sinceI didn't start watching until around 95-96. The most recent miss was Profit in 2005, for shame. And I give the award for "Never Would Guess Even If You Gave Me a Year" to Lopez in 2001.

91/115. I'm embarrassed that I forgot Harvey Grant and Jared Jeffries. Michael Adams, too - didn't he make an All-Star game while in a Bullets uni?

The ONLY starting lineups that really matter are the ones from 1996-1997 and before.

1997-1998
1998-1999
1999-2000
2000-2001
2001-2002
2002-2003
2003-2004
2004-2005
2005-2006
2006-2007
2007-2008
2008-2009
2009-2010

^ 13 straight years of garbage teams with an awful name who play in an pathetic overpriced arena.

I really feel sorry for those of you who wasted your hard earned money on season tickets for any of those above mentioned seasons. :D

As far as I am concerned WASHINGTON DC no longer has a professional basketball team.

^ Check out that BEAUTIFUL, white BULLETS home warmup jacket he is wearing. :D

I think I am going to pull mine out of my closet right now. :D

Sure as hell sh*ts on everything that other team who now plays at the VERIZON CENTER has worn before their games since the 1997-1998 season. :D

88/115. Jeffries' name is spelled wrong, but I typed in Profit as a joke and had that count, so i guess it evens out.

76/112.....BUT....I got screwed on Calbert Cheaney for some reason! I named him, but he didn't show up on 4 of the years ????

I can't believe I forgot Strickland (sitting there trying to figure out the PG for those years, and wondering how I'm missing this) and Bernard King.

Most of the others were like "Oh yeah!"when I saw them, but some I would have never thought of (Bryon Russell, Alexander,Lopez, English). I started watching the NBA during 92-93 when I lived in Virginia Beach, and we got the Bullets and Hornets games, so I remember those teams fairly well. I even went to the last regular season game vs. the Celtics (my team). It was McHale's last game.

I found Tom McMillen's road blue warm-up, and Never Nervous Pervis' home white warm-up on eBay. They're from the '84-'86 era Bullets.

I gotta say, though, that the more modern Bullets unis (from '88 - '97) were plain and soulless.

Image
They weren't traditional enough to be classic; they weren't distinctive enough to be interesting. And the ones before this (same design; goofy italicized numbers) were even worse.

I wasn't happy with the name/color change in '97, but I certainly agreed at the time that a design overhaul was long overdue.

How about 1964-65? I've got Don Ohl, Kevin Loughery, Terry Dischinger, Bailey Howell and Walt Bellamy. Probably not correct but also probably better than what I could come up with for 2004-05.

I've been watching Bullets/Wizards for a long time and have a long memory of suffering. Got 94 or 96, and maybe could have maintained that pace back through the 70s. My biggest oversights: Mugsy (even though I tried Bol) and Googs (why didn't I just think, "let's see, how did Webber end up here?"). Tried Jefferies until I got a spelling that worked. Cheaney only worked on some of them, and I spent a long time trying to remember who the missing forwards/guards there were. Some of the others I would have never guessed; I completely forgot about any aspect of Lopez.

I got 81/115 on that one. I would have never remembered Mike James starting or even playing with them, and I think that was Jim Paxson, not John, that played with the C's.

These are fun! Thanks!

Lopez is the answer to -- how did the Wiz cut their losses on Ike Austin, part of the Jordan rebuilding before his ego and the team's desire to appeal to fans without winning got too pressing.

The Calbert Cheaney thing is weird. If you type in "Cheaney" you get two answers and if you type "Calbert Cheaney" you get all six. I'm not sure why that's happening but I'm pretty sure it's not my fault.

99/115 (after adjusting for the Calbert Cheaney bug)

I'm disappointed that I missed Darrell Walker, Christian Laettner, Jarvis Hayes and Pervis Ellison. I also missed A.J. English, Haywood Workman, Muggsy, Larry Robinson, Felipe Lopez, Lorenzo Williams and Bryon Russell.

I got an '88' after counting the Cheaney thing. The worst omissions from my Memory banks were Bernard King and Jeff Malone, though they were a bit before my time as far as really following anything. I should have gotten Jarvis Hayes too of course, but maybe some things are best forgotten.
