Jamison to miss 3 to 5 weeks

Post#1 » by yungal07 » Thu Oct 15, 2009 8:25 pm

He was supposed to have the MRI this morning. Any news? The longer the wait, the worse the news is, I presume.

Amputations take a while...especially if you cut the wrong limb.

What about Haywood's injury? I think someone (not named Ji) should make a "Inevitable Injury Update Thread" to keep all these injury updates in one place.

Heard Haywood is fine. He was suited up yesterday but Flip said he wasn't going to play. So we're good with Haywood *knocks on [Hay]wood*

So who starts if Jamison is out for a length of time. My guess would be Blatche or D-Mac. Or maybe even Oberto if they want to go big.

This is what i get for saying 'Jamison was due' to be the next Wizard to go down a few weeks back. It figures, especially considering Jamison had been by far the healthiest of the big four the past few seasons and was already 'in mid-season form' this preseason.

It looked pretty damn serious to me. More than just a sprained shoulder which would be a nuissance but not game changer. A seperated shoulder is unfortunately a good possibility. That's a probably a third of this season gone right there, along with the risk of reinjury or surgery. Geez, I'd hope its not that.

Whatever the case we should know soon.

RT @MrMichaelLee The MRI has come back and Jamison has subluxation of his right shoulder. He’ll miss the rest of the preseason

A subluxation may have different meanings, depending on the medical specialty involved. It implies the presence of an incomplete or partial dislocation (Latin: luxatio)[1] of a joint or organ.[2] The World Health Organization (WHO) defines both the medical subluxation and the chiropractic subluxation. It contrasts the two and states in a footnote that a medical subluxation is a "significant structural displacement, and therefore visible on static imaging studies.

I tried to find other players with this.

James Posey had the same injury in 2003. He missed 9 games.

Tim Thomas missed 4 due to the same injury.

Shawn Livington also suffered from the injury, although it's unknown if he missed time from it.

Off course, we don't know the extent of Jam's injury, so we don't know if it will require surgery or not.

d'oh i had a shoulder sublaxation and that shxt hurt for real. I hope AJ is ready for some brutal physical therapy, because that's what it takes to recover. I got mine when I suffered a traumatic brain injury and my brain basically "forgot" it needed to send signals to the muscles that hold the joint together. the shoulder is weird. it's not a "ball-in-socket" joint in which the arm bone is essential held in place by shoiulder socket. the arm actually hangs from the shoulder and is attached by muscles and ligaments. So you can't just shhoot him ful of pain meds and "pop" it back into place. you have to re-build the muscle groups that hold the joint together.

That would be my guess if no surgery is needed.

Did Grover the Shaman leave yet? Otherwise, I worry that Jamison will be adrift in the metaphysical limbo of "2-3 weeks from never."

yeah but you guys are just thinking about when he comes back. My question is more of when he does come back, is he the same? Its on his right shoulder, that has to affect his shooting and may not be able to extend enough to get boards. The good thing is that AJ is in great shape, is a pros pro, and is a fast healer.

Its crazy because the whole time I was thinking that we may catch a break against the Mavs in game 1 as we are fully healthy and they may be missing Josh Howard. Then that quick AJ gets hurt and they said Howard went full contact today for the 1st time. Typical Wiz luck

Mike Lee quotes our good buddy the "anonymous league source" as saying that he (or she) does not think Antawn will need surgery.

Sounds like the thing basically popped forward out of the socket, where it smacked the nerves running down his arm for a second, and then popped back in. I guess that usually doesn't need surgery to fix, but they will wait and see over the next week if the rotator cuff, ligaments, and the socket had any damage that they can't see right now.

If he can come back and miss less than a month - and not have the thing popping out of place the rest of the year - that's probably about as good as we can hope for.

This is why it's really nice to have Miller, and to a less extent, Foye. With other capable scorers on the roster, Flip can tell Blatche to just play his game -- and not try to replace Antawn's scoring -- and just rebound, defend and run the floor.

I think the injury means we'll see more Miller early in the year, and a quick hook for Young, etc., if they're unproductive.
