The Jamison Absence Thread

I know that we've implemented some new things on D that have made us better... but is there a chance that the D was better tonight and will be better because of Jamison's absence? Dirk got his numbers, sure: 34 points, went to the line a lot. But down the stretch you can't tell me that Jamison could've played Dirk as well as Fabs did, especially on that crucial one-on-one stop toward the end.
Let's use this thread to analyze how what we're missing or not missing without El Capitawn on the floor because from what I saw tonight, we could be onto something with him not playing as much even when he's healthy.

Twan can't play defense. Yes, this is fact. However, I trust in Flip to use him PROPERLY. The rotations were a thing of beauty. Seeing two 7fters on the floor....oh sweet Jesus! But I digress. We WILL need Twan.

I can live with Jamison being a poor defender. The problem was that EJ didn't have the balls to pull him from a game down the stretch when we really needed a stop. Flip, as a newcomer to the team, doesn't have to operate within the same constraints. It's easier for him to simply treat the players as chess pieces rather than family.
It also helps that the we now have two players (Oberto and Blatche V7.0) who are without question better defenders than Jamison at the PF position. In the past, one could argue that Blatche and Songaila were no better than Jamison on D so there wasn't much point in subbing Jamison out.
I look forward to Jamison's return because I'm sure he'll make us better. But at the same time, I think Flip will manage to make the right rotations to make sure we can get a stop when we need one.

I'm with nate on this one.
We're going to need AJ this season for sure, we can't rely on Blatche to turn in a performance like he did tonight on a consistent basis.
Next stop ATL.
We might need Severn Hoos to work the door on Thursday at Gold Club to make sure Blatche doesn't channel his inter-Ewing.

Flip has much better players than EJ had. To think the weakest big man on the roster is Javale McGee is better than backups we had like Etan Thomas (after his contract), Kwame Brown, and Michael Ruffin. I agree though that Flip is more willing to take out someone in crunch time. Case and point was Flip taking out Butler in the latter half of the 4th quarter and using a 1/2/3 combo of Arenas/Foye/Miller.

Great game last night, Flip coached a good game, I was not sure what to expect from his style.
I see that Haywood played 38 minutes, AB 35. We never saw that from F-Tapscott or EFJ. I welcome the change.

Having AJ out and the Wiz performing at such a high level shows how deep a team that we have. We did not need him last night, but its a long season and we will need him before it is over. I am a big AJ fan but the team played well in his absence.
I love the fact that we have multiple players that can play multiple positons.

yeah, the chemistry was really good yesterday. i just hope it wont take to much of a hit when jamison gets back on the floor. it either a nice 16-17 point addition or a black hole. right now miller, oberto, arenas and butler can thread the needle. any comments on jamison's passing abilities?

His career avg is 1.7 apg... I've never really see him passing anything really, only hand offs... When he gets the ball, it goes up...

so i suppose my statement is right. he might interfere with the chemistry (all be it only one game) the team has with hogging the ball, or it will create another serious threat on offense. we'll have to see. if only jamison could pass the ball. i think he'll steps it up on defense as much as he can, he seems very weird on his legs, like he's walking on stilts or something, but with the team as a whole getting better at it i hope to see he will follow suit.
wow, thinking of AJ putting up 3-4 assist a game would be huge. they wouldn't know how and where to guard us. i am more and more seeing how deep this team can be, not only in players, but individual skill sets also

I don't think Jamison needs to be a passer. His main value is the fact the he scores so much and so efficiently given how little he has the ball. That's extremely valuable.

i am guilty in relating it just to last nights game. seeing how well every one played, was in tune to eachothers positions and all be it not in climactic numbers, the passing was really good and what set us apart from wizard teams of recent years i think. so yes, single game analysis. how will jamison fare once he's back. he will fill a huge gap, but having the two headed threat shot/assist wouldnt hurt

Meh, he's just sitting out so we'll get a higher draft pick.
Seriously, when he comes back, we have sick depth throughout the team (with the exception of PG). Sick as in very healthy. Take advantage of that - no player should play more than 36 minutes a game. It pays off late in the season and probably extends the basketball lives of the stars. Look at what San Antonio does.

We can't expect our shooting to be on all year like it was last game. Jamison is the closest thing we have to a guy who can score in the low post in an efficient way, so we will definitely need Jamison when we hit some rough shooting stretches. Not to mention the fact that his presence on the floor will stretch the defense and allow more driving lanes for the perimeter players, and give the team another kickout option on the perimeter.

I'm not sure what effect missing Jamison is having on the Wiz, but I can tell you this much, once he comes back, my fantasy team will be scary good.
