Wiz To Sign Boykins

Post#1 » by dlts20 » Wed Nov 11, 2009 9:49 pm

how funny is it that we of all teams have to add another guard. We were supposed to have more guards than any team in the leauge and already 8 games in we have to add someone.

Boykins is Gil's boy from GS though so I know he signed on to this move

Not that this is that big of a deal considering it's only temporary and it's not as if Boykins will get substantial minutes, but....

Earl is one of the worst defensive players in the NBA. He might be a sparkplug off the bench and a competent ball-handler but he very simply lacks the size to defend anyone in this league.

He's a chucker, too.

Not knowing the free agent point guards out there currently, you'd HAVE to think there are better options.

I really hope he gets extremely limited minutes.

I dunno

for a short term move, how bad can it be.

For one thing, I'm betting he's not TO prone, that without
checking his career stats

Correct. In his last season in the NBA (with Charlotte), he averaged 2.6 turnovers per-36 minutes.

Yeah, I think he's moreso just for insurance when we lose alot of guys like we're doing now. I also think he will be used primarly as another scorer in games like yesterday when guys like DS & Dom cant hit anything to save there life and NY is in the doghouse. Other then that I think he will ride the bench but just be happy to be in the NBA and be with Gil again

Good signing.

This team needs to play with some energy and hopefully Earl will spark some.

only other point guard available that I'd consider would be Brevin Knight, and we've totally been there done that. Hopefully Boykins won't get too many minutes because we'll be healthy soon (right? right????)

We might be deep in the guard spot on paper, but with Foye and Miller out and obviously James and Critterton also we just really lacked someone to play the pointguard when Gil needed a breather. If boykins can do that until we get our guys back I am just fine with it.

Like Miller said, he is indeed a chucker, but used judiciously, he can help. When he gets hot, he's fun to watch and drives the other team crazy. But he will have his negative Juan Dixon streaks.

Well, we need someone to play the position, so it's an okay enough move. I imagine he'll get cut once we heal up a bit.

He's no Starbury, but he'll do.

Actually, I'm proud of the Wizards for not signing Steve Francis purely as a nod to the locals.
