The Gentleman Antawn Jamison Appreciation Thread.

Post#1 » by doclinkin » Thu Nov 19, 2009 6:30 am

Come on now. Man deserves a little respect every now and again. Props due for El Capitawn. Nice first game back, and once again it's shown when he's in the game the floor opens up for others. He's the only catch and shoot guy on the Wiz who is willing to actually catch and shoot. Makes the passers look better, no need to go for their own. And can't complain about his usual double-digit rebounds.

Thing is he misses so few games that it's easy to overlook what he does well. Nice to have him back. The great leader of men...

His defense was at the very least average tonight. Granted, the Cavs don't have a PF who is a major threat to score, but his rotations and help defense were very solid. A sound system is going to make him look worlds better defensively.

I usually rip on him for not playing D, but the good thing last night was that I didn't even notice him messing up (we'll see if that's b/c AV & Shaq were out)... And his offense was amazing... Quick and never really took contested jumpers...

Great to have El Capitawn back...

Antawn cares, and it rubs off on everyone else. Really, really glad to have him back.

If you take out Jamison's shooting, the Wizards shot 39% from the field last night. I doubt they win shooting that low a percentage.

GREAT to have aj back. what a performance by the captain. alot of ppl have been saying that he played solid defense. REALLY? towards the end of the 1st when the cavs went on a run there were countless times when a shooter was left wide open because aj failed to rotate. i mean the guy finished with 31 and 10 in 37 minutes AND shot over 50% BUT finished with only +4 on/off. dont get me wrong i think he was a HUGE part of the wizards success tonight but he still has some work to do on team defense. i have faith it will get better though.

Yeah, AJ deserves, once again, some props for being both an on- and off-court leader. We take Jamison for granted and frequently single out his defensive shortcomings but the fact of the matter is that the Zards are a MUCH better team when he's on the court.

Did you see the TV coverage of AJ's locker at the Verizon Center? Jamison's locker features a nicely framed photo of what El Capitan said was his singular goal--the NBA Championship Trophy. That's the attitude I like to see...whether or not it becomes a reality.

Just saying. I always like to counterweight the common wisdom with a bit of the ole common sense. Toronto game. Somebody has to go off for 30 points every now and again.

Wiz record this season with Jamison as the leading scorer: 4-0
Wiz record this season with anyone else as the leading scorer: 2-10

Funny thing is, so many people here figured that the only reason we didn't trade Antawn already is because Abe wouldn't allow it. And now - when his "benefactor" is gone, Antawn is showing once again that he's too valuable to just give away.

Good job, Antawn - and I'm now on board with hoping he remains a Wizard for life.

great stat, and I'd be on the "trade Caron" movement before any talk of trading Jamison. It's apparent they can't coexist in the frontcourt defensively, and trading Butler would even open up the possibility of PT for DMac and M&M at SF, with more minutes for the guards... but bottom line I want to see the Wiz succeed, and would love for it to happen with Jamison around.

I love Jamison and think he is had been our best player this year (with the possible exception of Haywood) but I'm still open to trading him. I think we need to wait and see how the team looks at the Trade Deadline.

If we look like a middle-of-the-road .500 team, then I'd seriously consider dumping Jamison for cap relief and a late pick or young prospect. The rationale would be that the team as currently constructed isn't able to truly compete for a championship, so we may as well get whatever value we can out of Jamison before he declines.

On the other hand, if we go on a 12-4 run or something like that, and we look like a serious "darkhorse" contender, then we should keep Jamison and take a shot at a championship now.

Hooray! Someone else gets it! My eyes hurt from rolling them so many times at people who complain about Jamison's defense, but have nothing to say about the defense [or lack thereof] played by Gilbert and Caron. Jamison is the team's most consistent player, the team's most consistent scorer, the team's most consistent rebounder. Jamison = Good.

This thread should easily be 10-12 pages, imo. (Thanks for starting it doc.) AJ doesn't get enough love around here. Trading him would be a mistake. Scoring, rebounding, leadership, chemistry, maturity, playing hurt. AJ brings all of these to the table. And, when the day comes that Jamisons a productive sixth man and a model of professionalism for the youngins, we'll be glad he wasn't traded.

With Miller out, Jamison is probably the best "catch and shoot" guy on the Wizards. I think Saunders system really needs that threat and Miller is not assertive enough to fill the role.

this was on page 6, holy cow.

is there a way we can rebuild around oldtimer antawn. i mean, he's solid as a mf'in rock. black hole sure, cant defend a broom leaning against a wall but he comes to play every night. if we would create the game more to his stronger attributes (3's, baseline spinmove etc) we might be able to get some! i know he's older than uranus, so this is semi in jest. but think about it. 21 and 9, and decent shooting percentages (quickly glanced) all around, he could be deadly.

i like him, he kills the wizards in many ways, and in many ways is the only thing the wizards have gong for themselves.

go antawn.

Seriously, I had to do a double take on that pic, because the dude on the table looks a lot like me (when I had a tad bit more hair on the top of the dome).

I just showed it to my girlfriend and she was like "Oh my god, that does look like you."
